Not really - it may not be as smooth or slick as the others, I'll be the first to admit that.
But it still allows you to do a lot more - makes the new kids on the block look so locked in.

There are a plethora of things wrong with MS
But that is for a different discussion. I use and like Windows 7 (dual boot with Ubuntu), but that doesn't mean Microsoft aren't evil :twisted: Though most of these companies are evil so what does it matter...I wouldn't equate Nokia with MS though either. Think Nokia do need to up their game though if they want to stop losing market share hand over fist...

For about R500 more you can get a much higher specced Samsung Galaxy S running Android - opens up TONS of possibilities, dunno what Roux is on about it looking "locked in".

Symbian was not designed for touchscreen devices. 60% is as good a score as it will get

Nokia OVI store sucks compared with Android. Even searching for stuff on OVI is a SCHLEP of note.
Galaxy S? Does it have FM transmitter. Does it have USB on the go. Does it have HDMI output. Does it have Xenon Flash. Does it have free maps. Does it have a OS without lawsuits and a uncertain future. Going to buy a N8. The thing with like Android 4 1.5G processors will be minimum specs so by a years time Galaxy S will be ancient.

I can think of 1 or 2 things you get on other phones that Symbian does not have, however, I can think of a lot more things that you get on Symbian that others phones simply do not have.
Your firmware is out of date. V50 and onwards introduces new features such as kinetic scrolling on all menus etc. If you go to Device Updates you won't find any new versions for download (at least on Vodacom) and you'll have to reset your product code to a generic Nokia/European/American code to download via ovi on your PC. I'm not sure if this voids the warranty or not but to hell with Vodacom holding us back

Good point - in 6 months time all the issues people currently have with the N8 will have been fixed with firmware upgrades. No one will know about it because unlike Android and iOS there is no launch parties for version increments on Symbian. Just business as usual.
She's still very happy with her N79 that is 14 months old now.
You're not wrong, I didn't mention it.
I noticed a number of reviewers complained about it but it wasn't that big a deal for me. Certainly not as big a deal as some of the other things. Maybe Nokia could've made the button bigger and moved it more towards the centre of the device, but there's just so little room along the edge to work with.
Luckily most smartphones can't be hobbled by a poor default browser any longer thanks to Opera running on most of the large smartphone platforms.
AFAIK it does void the warranty to change the code, but hey, that's never stopped me. I ran the ported C6 firmware. Was fun, until I threw the phone against the wall, the table, the floor and stomped on it till it crunched. Fudging piece of buggy sh*te.
Can't wait to get my next Nokia.

The OS isn't the be all and end all. Symbian has its faults, but it's not the only reason to decide for or against. We're dealing with a mobile device here, not a computer that can run the latest games. In terms of value vs. price, I don't see any other mobile device offering as much value, let alone for R4800.
Forget Xenon flash, the Galaxy S has no flash at all!
