So true! I could not have put it better myself! Once I got my iPhone 4, I realised how poor Symbian really is. Anyone defending Symbian does not know any better and has probably never owned anything besides a Symbian OS device.

The iPhone for is a good looking toy. It does not have mass storage mode, working BT FTP or removable storage so getting stuff onto it is a pain. With Symbian you can install any apps from anywhere, not just the store, with the iPhone to do not have that.

As far as the UI goes you can't beat ythe iPhone - but with that kind of hardware (CPU, RAM, GFX) it does not surprise me. For everything expect the UI the iPhone is a poor choice.

Wow ok that's really strange because I keep getting this Certificate error message every time I try and install something, and it's done it with all the games so far I've tried installing: Quake III Area, Quake II, Quake I, Wolf3D, GameBoy Advanced Emulator, PS1 Emulator, Doom 1 etc... The games are all Symbian Ports of the games, Exactly how they look on PC that's how they look on the phone, have a friend with a N95 and all the games work effortlessly on his phone.

I'm not even going to go into software, let's just say I get the same Certificate error message for everything even the occasional theme.

So please if you guys have a way of getting past this I'm all ears. I've got a Nokia 5230 with Firmware v20.0.005

Try going to Settings>Application Manager>Installation settings

Change Software installations to "all" and online certificate check to "off" and try to install. If it still gives you an error the developers certificate has expired, in which case set the date on your phone back (try about a year) until you no longer get the error. This is only to install, after you have installed you can set the phone to the current date and it'll still work

You android supporters need a lesson in computational complexity. Programs in machine code will always run faster than those in byte code. Therefore symbian programs(which are in binary) run faster than android programs (which have to be executed by a JVM). To make up for it android phones have very fast processors which in turn drain battery life. For instance the Galaxy S has a 1 GHz processor while the N8 can get by on a 680MHz processor. People are already complaining about the Galaxy S battery life. Some can barely get 7 hours out of it. Another area where Symbian pwns Android

You chose my quote to make that comment on? Jeez. I was simply saying that Android has those features he mentioned and a nice UI... I was not commenting on speed, battery life, etc. And if anything I was comparing it to iOS, not Symbian. Jump down my freaking throat for stating a fact...

Nothing personal. Yours just happened to be the closest pro-android comment at hand. I just used it to give context to my comment. That's why I adressed it to "android supporters" instead of you specifically. Didn't mean to jump down your throat. :D

Ah, ok- no worries. Oh and I'm not necessarily pro-android either. It just suits me the best right now, but I'm a big fan of personal preference! What suits me might not suit you and vice versa. The more OS options out there the better... My personal preference might be totally different in a year, no brand loyalty here :D

Perhaps I should also point out that I am more of a Nokia supporter than Symbian specifically. If you look at the cool stuff they now have in non-smart Series40 devices it is hard to believe that they will die. Perhaps loose some market share yes, but not die.

Android is very nice if you look at what it achieved in the few years since it started, so I'm not hatin' on it - I just prefer Nokia and they tend to come with Series40/Symbian/MeeGo. A very unlikely candidate that has really impressed me is Bada, its pretty and it works like a dream.

What I despise is Apple, BlackBerry and all other poser fruit products and the attitude of their user base. Windows Mobile also does not rank very high in my books.
 
I'm happy with my N8 but it does have one problem that I've picked up so far. When you used the FM transmitter and did not switch it off, the phone will randomly go on loudspeaker during a call. Also if the FM transmitter was switched on and you used the earphones on the phone, then the loudspeaker doesn't work when you unplug the earphones. You need to switch the phone off and back on again.

The 12MP camera is great and all but it's default setting is set to 9MP. If you change it to 12MP, your photos won't be in wide-screen format which sucks.

I'm not so sure about the responsiveness of the screen turning. Sometimes I feel like shaking it to get the screen to turn.

Apart from my first N8 to be faulty right out of the box (didn't even turn on) and having to wait an additional 3 days to get a replacement, I must say that I'm quite happy with the phone so far.

The very first 5800XMs did that as well as some real early N97. If you have used a S60V5 phone in the last 6 months you would have found it behaves a lot better. Same goes for the N8 - it will have a few bugs in the first couple of months and later on that will be sorted out.

Sure with the early firmware. But that has been fixed for a looong time now. That said there is quite a big difference between the very first version and the latest one. :)

You'll have to sign the application yourself, copy the .sis/.sisx file to your phone/memory card and download freesigner here and try to sign the application using the self sign function. If that still doesn't work apply for a new certificate at OPDA. It should take about a day to get the certificate and key. When you get them save them to your memory card (I'm not sure if it HAS to be on the card but it's what I've been told to do) and then change the Sign Cert and Sign Key values to those values in FreeSigner and sign away. FreeSigner itself usually has the "expired certificate" error but changing the date will fix that.
