Roku 3 tips and discussions.

I'm just going to cable the little thing, I like it so much but just can't live with it knowing it's sitting on my wifi's channel. Will just change the wifi channel on my router after connecting the roku via cable which should stop it from jumping around the channels

Best option IMO. I had my entire house gigabit wired and only use the wireless access points for mobile devices and notebooks.

Agree. Video should only be carried by wired ethernet in the home IMHO

Just setup Pandora on Roku, should've done it ages ago!

For some reason my YouTube doesn't work. Deleted the app and added it again, but just shows a black screen :-(

Not a connection issue as Netflix etc works well. Any ideas??

Many customers are reporting intermittent problems with YouTube on the Roku ...

The Vevo channel also works pretty well on the Roku. I am currently listening to Spotify on the MXIII - not sure whether this is free on the Roku though.

My Youtube works fine but I noticed that they changed the splash screen to the old-look Youtube design. I also just wish the app had proper controls when playing videos, I'm always confused when I want to fast forward, all the other video apps I have use the directional keys to navigate the timeline except for Youtube.

Vevo is pretty good, although most of the music on there is shyte.

Hi,

I have tried every single thing I have read on this thread, the internet as well as hours of research. I have tired Unotelly and Unblock-Us. I have spent hours emailing both. NO NETFLIX ON MY ROKU3!!

Works fine on my iPad and computer.

But NO NETFLIX ON MY ROKU3!!!

I am also having trouble accessing Amazon and Vudu. I have also set up static routes and sent screenshots of all my settings to Unotelly and Unblock-US which they confirmed was perfect, but still NO NETFLIX ON MY ROKU3!!!

I am so frustrated and spent the whole weekend on his....had an ugly little cry and tantrum as well....blegh.

Did you use a VPN when creating your Roku account?

If you didn't your account will get flagged as ZA and therefore no Netflix.

If you might need to reset and make a new account on your Roku.

Do you have trouble accessing them or installing them? Are the apps visible in the app store or not? If not follow the advice of the above two posts, you need to create your account using a VPN. Depending on which apps you want available you should choose a VPN based on their location (i.e. if you want the US apps, then use a US-based VPN if you want UK apps then use a UK-based VPN).

Also make sure you create your account from the roku.com homepage before you do anything, DO NOT create your account by going to the roku.com/link page first.

My YouTube is back to normal but Netflix became problematic for a while yesterday. Hopefully resolved tonight :-)

What do you mean by "having trouble"? What error messages are you getting?

Just an update on the Netflix unavailability. When I started it tonight I had to log on again and all was fixed... So fixed itself :-)

How snappy is the interface on the Roku 3?

I mostly use PLEX and Youtube on mine, Both are very quick - no lag. The Youtube app is very impressive with great video quality considering my 2MB ADSL line!

Thanks FlashSA, have you ever used a WDTV Live before? Trying to compare the two in terms of responsiveness

No - but I went ROKU because of the wifi remote and the built in earphone support of the remote which is pure win for me (I watch a lot of tv at night while the family sleeps so I just plug my earphones into the ROKU 3 remote)

its a very good idea, but doesnt it have an impact on the battery life of the remote? One would think so...

Yes and no. Leaving the earphones plugged in even if you are not watching\using the ROKU kills the batteries very fast. But I remove mind after use and usually watch 2-3 series episodes a night. I go through a pair of Energizer AA's a month which is not too bad. I also have rechargeable batteries which I use when I can't find decently priced batteries....

Conversely, the ROKU 3 in our bedroom which my wife exclusively uses is still on it's factory shipped set of AA's and we have had the unit for several months - although she hardly uses earphones (except when I moan that I want to sleep).

Valuable info, thanks :)

When you say Plex, I assume its an app that is available on the Roku. You use it to connect to a media server of yours? Windows share? Any connectivity issues?

WDTV connecting to Windows shares is a nightmare, and is just not reliable at all...
