Rooftop solar registration Eskom

View attachment 1794737

This reply reads like you're referring to multiplies entities. I.E. Both Eskom and munis. If you'd said "That's another reason why I said to ignore Eskom" there'd be no ambiguity.

And even still, I'd put money on Eskom having some sort of legal route to pursue you beyond civil court if you push them far enough. The same way they can eventually arrest people who tamper with their meters or don't pay their bills, they probably (in theory) could go after you for non-registration if there's a loss of revenue or potential damage to their systems if you ignore them for too long.
Eskom has a legal claim to enforce all properties to pay for grid maintenance (availability levy) even if there is no grid connection. This is already in place in COCT. They also have a legal claim to inflate the connection tax if usage is low. They will say that some of the maintenance money is lost because of no usage payments. Nersa has already proclaimed this many times.

In a statement, Eskom says residential customers with unregistered small-scale embedded generator (SSEG) installations up to 50kW (typically 5kW to 10kW for households) could qualify for an exemption from registration-related fees (application, tariff conversion and connection fees) until March 2026.

It is essential for them to know who has solar to put a new levy in place or to hyperinflate the connection tax.

No, COCT has appointed a company to take photos by plane on a more regular basis than google maps. I suspect COCT/DA helped the GNU to implement the same. This is why suddenly Eskom is herding the cash cows back into the kraal.
They haven’t heard of DJI lol. But still sucks either way

as usual, they full of **** - why can't they give clear step by step instructions on their website on what needs to be done? Very difficult to find.

Also they mentioned they have been communciating with customers since what 2021 about this via their bills they receive. So how then do they communicate with the prepaid users since we don't get bills. Bunch of absolute muppets.

I just came across the below news article. Has anyone here on Eskom registered their rooftop solar, had a meter from Eskom installed and had to pay inspection cost for compliance? If so please share what it cost and procedure please.

Done on my side. No costs yet from Eskom but R26k all in for engineer sign-off and DGSL installation. ECA(SA) engineer must do the application which may require your CoC / supplimentary CoC to be updated.

From Eskom:

Good day:

I thank you for taking the time to listen to us yesterday, the summary from yesterday is as follows, if you are still using Eskom electricity and your Eskom electricity is powering your PV system whether feeding back or not we consider that to be a grid-tied connection (which is unsafe and not a legal connection).

We are therefore appealing to those with such connections to fill out the attached form labelled ESKOM APPLICATIO FORM FOR SSEG. Please read that form and fill out and send back to my email address. We shall then liase with you more in detail on a one on one basis where you can pose all your additional questions and concerns, we shall then furnish you with a quote, and once you pay we shall normalise your supply, you will not pay for the meter, you will not pay the conversion fee, you will only pay a deposit (for most of you on prepaid this will amount to between R4840 and R7260). We shall fit you with a new smart meter which has the additional benefit of providing at least 10amps supply during loadshedding at stages 1-4, and credit you with units generated from your generator.

This is the most important part of the email, only read further is you are clear so far and want to know more and if you have an off-grid system.

If your Solar PV’s are not powered by Eskom and it is a standalone system completely independent of Eskom supply please get engineer to fill out form labelled CUSTOMER STANDBY STANDALONE DECLARATION.

The other documents are for your additional reading requested by other attendees that speak to the compliance certificate to be completed by the Engineer once you normalise your grid-tied connection, an inspection checklist we use when we normalise the supply and below is a breakdown of the tariff and its monthly costs of the new tariff Homeflex 1 for most of you on prepaid supply.

Just call an ECA(SA) registered engineer and get them to explain the process.

Until they put a process in place that is reasonable, in complexity and cost, in good faith, and by gosh!!! Stop the coercive language... Like reasonable ****ing people!!!

My assumption will remain that this has nothing to do with what's good for the people of SA. It has been clear for years that Eskom wishes to slow down home solar in SA, one way or another. They sat on their hands for years! Decades! With regards to how South Africans should get solar. Simply because - They didn't want South Africans to get solar. They didn't spend that time implementing good practices and processes. They didn't engage with South Africans. No... They just uses a long line of discouraging tactics. And we all know why. This is just more of that.

It's Eskom's choice to be reasonable, or to be seen as thugs engaging in common thuggery. And I'm sorry to say... Thus far...

They are better known for failing their own public mandate for decades. To supply the people of SA with consistent and affordable electricity. Their raison d'être in the first place!!! Without that - They are nothing. Then they don't have a reasonable reason to exist!. If civility is off the table - I say they should be paying us or F OFF!

Shake fist at sky?

Haha. But you see... Eskom is not the sky.

And I mean that seriously. They've worked exceedingly hard to earn generations of resentment. That kind of thing inevitably comes with an eventual price. Telkom also thought it was hot **** at one point. SAPO, SAA, and all the rest. Now... But for contrived angles of involvement, they're barely relevant. The just reward for this kind of MO is well understood by now.

Just reward? Nobody at Eskom cares about your rant. I'm not sure what the 'reward' is, hence my comment. The only reward I see is people dying young from heart disease after so much ranting and stress about something that isn't even a someone.
I'd rather treat them as irrelevant and ignore the post altogether if I didn't have the time for them. :)

Tannie met die rooi Ferrari?

People should relax - this requirement is only for Eskom customers. And yes, a Mozambican handshake sort the issues in no time.

Show me 1 municipality that does not have the same requirement. Many already require registration, and many will require it soon. They have even made it law to register. To keep a tight leash on the cash cow. Solar systems goes against the legitimate socialist monopoly enforced by the DANC.

So the video shows a DGSL switch... which is an isolator. I'm lost to the point of the video and why they are showing it?

Eskom WILL NOT be happy with your solar system until they shafted you milked you for ALL the money they can and just go for seconds because they can. When people ask for protection against this stuff then the DA can't read. So yea South Africa solar users. It is going to be bad but you can afford it

I keep finding articals about Eskom demanding rooftop solar registration but nowhere do I get an address what to do or forms link to fill in. So how in this world do they expect it to be done.

I could tell you, but then you might do something silly like actually register your system.
