Rough seas ahead for MultiChoice

As much as I hate to concede, the fact is that DSTV's sports coverage is unparalleled in terms of breadth, coverage, immediacy and reliability, convenience and requires zero fxcking around with technologies that are arcane to the vast majority.

Sit on couch, press "Power On", switch to channel of choice - beer/dop/cooldrink/coffee/popcorn/chips/biltong/snacks - done.
Pretty much the only reason we still have dstv. Every major sporting event live from start to finish and smaller events as well. As a cycling nut especially it's worth it. Not to mention olympics and winter olympics over multiple channels. Nothing beats dstv for stuff like this that I know of.

Why after all these years they still refuse to do a sports only package I will never understand.

Can just imagine though.. If they ever decide to do a sports only package it will be like R5000 a month

Doubtful.
They do it in many countries:

Brazil

France

  • Ligue 1 (2021–24)
    • 8 matches per week
    • 10 top pick matches and 66 second and third pick matches per season
    • Sunday highlight show
  • French Open (2021–23)
    • 10 night sessions

Germany

India

• Cricket in New Zealand

Italy

United Kingdom

  • Next Generation ATP Finals (2018–present)
  • ATP World Tour
    • Third party pay TV provider for Queens Club and Eastbourne tournament (2018–present)
    • All Masters 1000 events (2019–present)
    • Twelve 500 and 250 series tournaments (2019–present)
    • Third party pay TV provider for the ATP finals (2019–present)
  • Premier League
    • 20 matches (2019–present)
  • WTA Tour
    • 49 tournaments (2020–present)

United States

So one would have to subscribe(?) to half a dozen places to match enough of the sports coverage? Sounds like a lot of trouble, expensive too. Maybe some of it is geo-location sensitive as well, not for everybody then.

I doubt SuperSport is going away anytime soon, even if it had to become independent to survive.

The greedy bosses of DSTv made n number bad decisions. Firstly the included a lot of useless channels nobody are interrest in watching. They bragged about the number of channels bit it was useless.
Secondly they allianated the sport fans with their monopoly and they bought the sport bosses with huge amounts of sponsotships.
Thirdly the bosses enriched themselves with ludicrous salaries and bonusses.

We have Disabled dstv totally. We are now on "watch on demand". We now stream on Netflix, YouTube and Disney.
There are better ways to enjoy sport.

I feel sorry for the staff at dstv but the bosses deserves whats coming to them.

Probably not for boomers but many knows how to make it easy and more affordable.

DSTV will die with the boomers.

Lol. They must know your influence on this forum, trying their luck...
Now the are trying to sell me the new Explora 3000 or whatever they call it, They told me they noticed I still use the old decoder.

Bare in mind My Decoder was Bought for R400 back in 2017 from Game and I only subscribed to DSTV for one month, Once the month was over I just stopped paying and put that decoder in storage. So why would I care about the new explora when I dont even have a dstv subscription. smh

Sure only relevant is Brazil. Doubt there is a business case for SA. Never mind all the broadcasting rules that they wouldn’t bother to navigate, much like star link. Just not worth the effort.

There is no better way to watch sport in SA other than DSTV for the price, not matter what you can convince yourself.

Similar story. They sent me an SMS the other day for payment, but I cancelled DSTV more than a year ago.
As I still had my login credentials I checked out my statements. Still being billed monthly. So if I ever decide to reactivate DSTV in the future I'll have a hefty bill to settle first.
:cautious:

Not happening when your internet dies during loadshedding or multiple undersea cable breaks. Good luck !
Oh yeah, I'd much rather be concerned whether there are clouds in the sky....

Loadshedding doesn't affect my Internet in the slightest though.

Mine neither, but I have seen so many complains here on the forums about LTE going down during loadshedding.

I lose signal for maybe 5 minutes, 2 or 3 times a year, hardly an issue. Catch Up takes care of most concerns, for live sport then we also get to hop online.

iviewhd.com. not free but good.
that looks very good - the annual sub for the top tier service (which includes the sports package) works out to about R325 per month - pretty good

How many devices does that sub support? (I couldn't find that info on the website)

Edit: Ah, ok I see - that is for 1 device. An additional device (at the same IP address) is another R146 per month. So 3 devices (main plus 2 which is what I currently have with DSTV) takes the price to R617.
