I have a Billion 800vgt router.
Telkom ADSL 4 Meg line and Afrihost ISP Uncapped 4 meg.
My linespeed is low maybe throttled. Telkom says line is fine.
When I run Billion Diagnostics it reports SNR margin up 7 dB Down 12 dB
Line Att Up 52 dB Down 31 dB
It does not report line speed! or sync speed!
How can I test for this.
Speedtest.net gives between 0.54 and 1.0 Mbyte download speed.
Please help

Your upstream attenuation seems to be abnormally high. Have you tried to take the phone off hook and then recheck the diagnostics? If there is a bad joint you might notice some improvement in the figures. Is there any noise or crackle on the line? Surely the linespeed appears on the home page? If you can telnet to the router you may be able to use a command like wan adsl chandata or wan adsl perfdata or wan adsl linedataf1 or linedatan to get more information about CRC, FEC and HEC errors etc.

You might want to try to borrow someone else's D-Link or TP-Link ADSL modem too, but first connect your ADSL modem directly to the Telkom telephone line, without any other telephonic devices (eg. fax/alarm/telephone) connected.

With an line attenuation of 50dB+ you'll really struggle to sync at 4Mbps down/512kbps up, unless you have a very good ADSL modem.
