Just out if interest, was the phone running the OTA update released on 1st October 2016? I have a Note 5 and after I did this update I found my phone getting quite warm while charging and my battery life is gone to the dogs. Previously I used to take my phone off charge around 8AM or earlier and by 10 PM I would be at 20%. Now by 2 PM my battery is at 15%, and I have not changed my usage recently at all.

Yeah, so much for pics of damage to the passenger seat. I call bs, the OPs story has too many holes.
Gees dude, you want blood samples?

Samsung have acknowledged the OP's phone exploded. Did myBB investigative journalists thumb suck a version?

Still does not changed the fact that the OPs version of the truth has some large holes, credibility down the crapper.

I'm looking for a Note 4, how much was it from china? Did you get one on ebay?

Yes, I bought it off eBay. The vendor was selling a stock of new NOTE 4's, but he also had a listing for one on auction with no minimum price.
He is selling them at a pay now price of R 4351.00, and through the one on auction I managed to win it for R 3170.00

You just need to make sure you don't buy one of the Verizon Note 4's, they won't work on our networks. The one to avoid is the N910V, the one I bought is the N910U which is usually sold to the Australian, Singapore, Indonesia and New Zealand markets.

Interesting, I thought it was the unlocked Verizon phones that were ok to buy on eBay as they use CDMA and you could put a SIM card in them. I was under the impression that the phones to avoid were AT&T it as they are usually network looked (even if they say unlocked) and they use a sim.
I think I know nothing and really need a wise person to help me out. ☺

I'm not quite at the point to call BS but believe there's something behind the story.

Perhaps previously rooted, maybe gave problems and was returned to Cell C, malware?

What I think is despicable is Samsung's threat - which we have yet to see proof of.

aah.. the doubters...
I pray you are fortunate enough to experience this for yourself...
I pray it happens to you at the most inopportune moment, so you can experience it in it's full splendor.

I requested the phone recordings from Samsung, but was told that it was on a different line that they called me, so it was not recorded...

As for rooted or Malware... Samsung had access to whatever was running on my phone.. I was making use of it's security measures, so I'm sure they would be able to say if it was or wasn't..
My guess is that if it wasn't, then they wont say anything.

You threw you phone and the screen side right? One can see the screen side it not nearly as damaged as the battery side. So your seat could still easily be OK... is it OK?

Yes, I did expect the seat to have damage, but surprisingly, it did not.
I must point out though, that even though the phone was extremely hot, I did not see any visible flame until it actually hit the pavement.
Lots of smoke yes, but can't recall seeing actual flame.

Have you seen how quick a lithium battery explodes, or the magnitude?? The OP would never have had enough time to do his dance around the car without it burning the passenger seat BIG TIME.

Surely, depending on the failure, the time it takes the battery to burn out will differ from situation to situation?

We are still waiting for the so called pics that were supposedly going to be in the mybb article.

So you already know the cause and the extent of damage... Did you let Samsung know?
I'm sure they would be interested.

I did not ask or expect anything from Samsung apart from what I lost...
I'm a Samsung fanboy to be honest... least I was.

If some people choose to ignore my experience ,or chalk it off as a hoax, it is to their detriment.

Absolutely everything I said was and is the truth.. nothing has been added for dramatic effect.

How long is a piece of string?

The type and severity of the battery fault would determine how quickly thermal run away occurred, it can be gradual or almost instantaneous. That the op had the phone next to his body so he would have noticed the heat relatively early on therefore when the phone landed on the passenger seat it may not have been hot enough to melt the seat material on contact.

I don't see anything bogus about the OP's story and apart from the initial slimey Samsung rep he hasn't been overly miffed or money grabbing.

This thread is filled with several c%nts of the lowest order....

Just because the seat is ok - it didn't happen? A car seat is designed to handle direct sunlight in a closed car on a 40+ degree day FFS.

OP, glad you got a new phone but I feel Samsung owes you more based on that threat against your employment.
