SA Music thread

I remember them too. They where just a cacophony of sounds conjoured up by a bunch of guys that had no musical talent whatsoever and who were solely relying on the lack of discrimination of young people to follow whatever source of auditive vibrations gave them the most stimulation.
... maybe their first album (inexperience) but after that quite good. And they had brilliant afrikaans lyrics. Am trying to remember the album that had 'Kiss the Machine' on it .... awesome.

(p.s - the album was Strop)

there are a good few SA bands on the music side of download.com - not all good music is signed to a label

And this is pretty much what I think of trance parties also.

Well then you are sorely mistaken. Many of the top trance producers in the world are some of the most talented musicians you could ever hope to come across. Trance is a very broad genre though and I would agree to an extent that much of it is put together by those without a talented bone in their body. As a trance producer myself I can assure you that I spent many years studying music, its history and numerous instruments and pieces of equipment so please dont make such idiotic, and broad-based generelisations.

Although in your defence, you listen to Kurt Darren:sick:

On a side note, please dont try hijack this thread and turn it into Afrikaans musiek only as the thread title and OP appear to relate to SA music, of which there are plenty genres in numerous languages.

Well, this is a new thread that I'm sure is a spin-off from my thread (or at least a previous post of mine) about AFRIKAANS singers.

Uh no, I didn't even see your thread / post relating to Afrikaans singers. I didn't create this thread to be limited to any particular genre but any SA music :).

I love Kobus, foto na dans, ***ofpolisiekar, snotkop, anton goosen (well my wife loves him more than me), koos doep and beeskraal

And when it comes to english bands, there is one and only one...Southern Gypsy Queen!!!!!! Their song "Last Outlaw", is just the best thing ever put to music

Steve Van , Henry Ate , Love Jones , Koos Kombuis , Valiant Swart , Tweeslag , Straatligkinders , Parlotones , Radio Kalahari Orkes , Bonekey ...... etc.

Too many to mention :D

Got some kickass bands in SA !

Parlotones, Prime Circle, Just Jinger, Seether, Henry Ate, Karen Zoid, M&M and numerous SA house, trance and hardstyle producers!

Are you kidding me?
Old!
Sigh.
2/3 good songs
2 good songs
There are others?!?!?

Bottomline is that none of these you mentioned are AFRIKAANS singers ... which supports my argument.

Although in your defence, you listen to Kurt Darren:sick:

This thread is not about what you don't like, but about the music that you do;)

Thanks. Got somewhat defensive when I was called talentless and the best form of defence is attack!

This next comment is not aimed at SA artists, but more at SA music companies and distributors ......

Stop selling crappy produced CD's and DVD's with crappy remastered and recorded tracks.

just came back from a gig at maloneys in hatfield (pta)
2 bands played - "lifeline" and "straatligkinders"

lifeline is actually the hatfield doxa deo's band (or part of oit). really good. the frontman/vocalist/bassist is amazing! i havent seen someone riff a bass guitar like that in a long time and the dude can actually sing REALLY well!

straatligkinders was kickass. awesome stage presence and music. really rocked the place. the sound was a bit bumming though because the dude who was sitting at the mixer didnt really know what he was doing. waaaayyyy too much bass and the vocals was too soft. but thats not really the band's fault...

anyway, if you're into alternative/hard rock with a bit of a punk vibe, check them out =)

+1
damn those crappy producers with their crappy quality crap.

Albert De Wet rocks like I haven't heard in a long time, I love every song of his, I'll definitely make a plan to buy one of his discs end of the month ;)

You guys only have one sa cd in your collection and its Kurt Daren? lol

What about Karen Zoid, Saron Gas, Perez, Pestroy?

Afrikaans pop is sooooooo bad.

Agreed. I don't know how anyone can listen to it without their brain hemorrhaging :(

I'm not really a fan of any SA music (at least I haven't come across any that I actually like). I quite enjoy metal, and all the local metal bands just try to sound like famous international metal bands, so why would I listen to a cheap local knock-off?
