SA Politics Thread Part 11: The GNU Normal

You join and vote for the DA if you want the indignity of dying from Cholera.
Nobody would be dying from cholera if the ANC hadn't destroyed all our hospitals.

It took them 8 years to correct it in Tshwane, after they were done correcting it, people have died from Cholera, the money to fix the water was missing, the metro owed Eskom billions and the metro got an adverse audit for the first time in its entire existence.

Excuse me if I don't believe the hype.
Seems you are the "go-to man" for water projects. Tell me some more about the Giyani saga.

The recent VAT thing saw the DA, MK and EFF voting on one side. Why is it a scandal if parties outside of the GNU vote with the ANC for whatever reason?
The ANC actively colluded with a party outside the GNU to use unconstitional methods to try force the VAT thing through
That mess ended up with the country having no approved budget for a period of time

Reminds me of certain people in this thread who just believe whatever bollocks emanates from the ANC's head honchos.

South Africa reels from Trump tariffs as neighbours cut softer deals

Trade experts are sceptical that the government’s ‘support measures’ will mitigate the damage.

“I don’t see the National Treasury easily allocating extra cash, or signing off on tax relief for affected companies,” says Donald MacKay, founder of XA Global Trade Advisors.

People talk as if you can easily replace the US but, as a consumer market, you don’t easily replace its depth. And if it was so easy to find new markets, we’d already be doing it.”

Currently, just over 1/3rd of SA's exports to the USA will be unaffected

More than a third of these exports include products currently exempted from tariffs — such as platinum, manganese and pharmaceuticals.

There will be no successful change of an ANC metro into a DA metro, ever again. The cadres are embedded into every single position in the local government service. They will not let go of their jobs. They will do everything in their power to sabotage any change to a DA municipality. That is what Tshwane proved. Not even Zille can turn Joburg around. That is why the country is doomed. Tshwane might even get turned into another DA victory, but they will experience the same fate. Cadres 4 life.

That si why I said DA mustnt push to try get control via coalitions. Coalitions will allways try undermine each other. has been seen in every single one. EFF/MK/ASA and all the other ANC offshoots are all the same mindset. Cannot be trusted. Corrupted to hell

If DA cant win it outright then they must rather stay in opposition
Also it takes time to weed out the 10%ers put in place by the previous incumbents.
I wager a party needs to have full control for 10+ years before they can show real progress

The pictures of idiots paving roads amuses me. I wager in 3 years time we are going to hear all the illregular expenditure coming out from that

The problem is when the DA which is supposed to be the last word on good governance actually makes things worse as they did in Tshwane, you just cannot explain that away.

It would have helped the country tremendously to have some kind of media that could pull the balance back to center. Closest we have in the media space would be, what... Politicsweb?

Well, until such time, we'll just have to settle for Pietertjie with ANC love-juice running down his chin, flipping printouts on national tv, making a fool of himself. Eish....

Actually the audit outcomes will get better now that the incompetent DA has been kicked out, that is the reason Cilliers Brink and his people are all over the place advocating for lawlessness in the metro, they understand, the longer the new coalition remain power, the more they are going to be embarrassed.

Gwarube is young and black, Zille already did that mistake with Maimane and Mazibuko, it is something she clearly regrets.
Tbh she is different to them in that she's been part of the party, circa Mazibuko's party leadership, for around 13 years now, before being as prominent as she is now? Still there despite the so-called "exodus".

In her final year as a student, Gwarube was recruited into the Democratic Alliance (DA) Young Leaders Programme.[3] In the programme she met Lindiwe Mazibuko, the Leader of the Opposition, who became her mentor.[4] In January 2012, shortly after graduating, Gwarube moved to Cape Town to begin work as a spokesperson in Mazibuko's office.
Mazibuko became parly leader after being an MP for two years, with no prior political experience. Mmusi became party leader in 2015 after only joining in 2010.

And last but not least, it seems Gwarube has high rep. She was even part of the GNU negotiation team for DA alongside Gogo and Tony. She's been National Spokesperson and Chief Whip in Parly. My guy, she's a minister now.

So to dismiss her chances because she's "young and black" is stupid, and all too ANC.

Except this goes against clear evidence that the large majority of municipalities with the best audit outcomes either have a DA majority or a DA-led coalition. All the worst ones are run by the ANC so surely by your logic, we should kick out the ANC at every opportunity?

Wanting to be a gatekeeper to who can and who cannot be in the GNU goes against the very spirit of the GNU, the DA did try that before wasting to close the gate on the PA.

So the door of the GNU is always open and the DA will be required to treat any new entrant with respect and make them feel at home.
In keeping with the spirit of an inclusive GNU, it is agreed that the composition
shall be discussed and agreed amongst the existing parties, whenever new parties
desire to be part of the GNU.
In the statement of intent. That ANC loves to ignore.

It wont matter whether the councilor is ANC or DA, the people dgaf, the entire world is their dumping ground, this will never change.
GHL has posted videos of them working on drains like these, and there's all kinds of junk in them, including mattresses, etc.

So it isn't surprising that they get blocked so often, because it seems like people use their toilets as trash cans. At least with DA government, there's a chance that these drains will be fixed. With GLM... Not so much.

Bree street in JHB is still exploded to this day...
