The slick, upbeat videos appeared to offer what many jobless young South African women can only dream of – a steady wage, professional training and international travel.
Here was a fresh start where young Africans like themselves could apparently escape youth unemployment running at around 62 per cent, and begin an exciting career in Russia.
Not only did the videos show gleaming office blocks and happy, industrious students, but they were being promoted by well-known African social media influencers who are looked up to and trusted by millions of followers.
“Apparently girls are treated fairly here: Africans, Asians, Latin Americans,” Cyan Boujee, a 24-year-old South African DJ and influencer, said in a TikTok video to nearly two million followers.
She said she was being shown around the Start programme, in Russia’s Tatarstan region. “They are given housing, jobs and on top of that, they are taught to speak Russian.”
Yet days later, Ms Boujee and several other influencers had deleted their videos and apologised to their vast followings.
Their contrition followed a South African government warning for young people to be vigilant against human trafficking scams and wary of “unverified foreign job offers”.
The ministry for women and youth expressed “grave concern over recent reports of alleged job offers circulating on social media that target young South African women aged 18 to 22 for employment opportunities in Russia”.
Those days are gone, where becoming ANC president means country president. Those two are fighting to leading a party that's in terminal decline, what's the point even making such a big noise...Malema this past week was on a Podcast saying Mbalula is running and if he's not stopped, he'll be the next president. He says Mbaks is telling everyone not to campaign yet while he is busy using the SGs office to do exactly that.
He says only 2 people are serious contenders, the rest are just talking.
From what he said, it's either Mbalula or Mashatile who's going to be the next ANC president.
I never said president of South Africa. Those days are gone, where becoming ANC president means country president. Those two are fighting to leading a party that's in terminal decline, what's the point even making such a big noise...
He said in September last year, a group of white farmers arrived at the dwelling he shared with his cousin on the farm and demanded that they leave.
Ja jong.....He said in September last year, a group of white farmers arrived at the dwelling he shared with his cousin on the farm and demanded that they leave.
“They told us we would die if we refused to leave,” he recalled.
He said his nightmare started on August 11, when his cousin James Phetla, known to locals as Malefole, was discovered dead in the bushes in the Maartenshoop farming area near Mashishing (formerly Lydenburg).
His legs were broken, his feet tied, and his head battered. The death was flagged in the certificate as unnatural.
Police accused of protecting farmer suspected of lynching farm dweller.
We have a problem in South Africa. A problem of white farmers killing black people like they are animals then turning around claiming false genocide on white people in South Africa.
Weakest? Oh no, friend, it will get much worse for GLM.I never said president of South Africa.
The ANC even at it's weakest is still twice as strong as the DA so the ANC will continue to probably get president in any near future coalition negotiations.
We know you'd love the ANC to fall below the DA, but that is not happening anytime soon. It's only a possibility via News24 propaganda polls and what not.
They just have no clue...
Cadres are now launching lunar eclipses.
Thick as bricks yet not as useful...They just have no clue...
That's being somewhat complementary towards their capabilities.Thick as bricks yet not as useful...
Now imagine losing all that and still having double the DA vote.Weakest? Oh no, friend, it will get much worse for GLM.
Eish, imagine losing 30% (some cosmic comedy there) of your own vote within five years and still being this arrogant lol.
It must've been a temporary WMC rigging, ANC can never lose... Right, guys?
To counter, John should release a statement with the next solar eclipse titled, "Brought to you by Minister John Steenhuisen" for good effect. They just have no clue...
The DA was going to die, remember? Crash to below 10% or something, thanks to PA... What happened? Now imagine losing all that and still having double the DA vote.
Is that what you have resigned yourselves to, not dying? Totally given up on growing beyond 20%?The DA was going to die, remember? Crash to below 10% or something, thanks to PA... What happened?
Are you sure you want to go with that as your big reveal? Now imagine losing all that and still having double the DA vote.
No, next year, we'll finally fall to 15%, thanks to PA. I promise you.Is that what you have resigned yourselves to, not dying? Totally given up on growing beyond 20%?
