SA Post Office - We deliver parcels without delays

I get a hand full of scumral invoices every few months.... soooo either SAPO sucks balls at something as simple as delivering mail or scumral sucks at sending out invoices

Is it safe for a woman to go into a Post Office ? .....

That R28 is not the PO fee, it's rates and taxes on stuff you imported. It's standard.
Nope. Import duties if any is added ontop. The R28 was a new thing they went with many months ago now

As far as I can establish, it's a flat rate of R28 levied as a handling fee, regardless of value or contents.

This is correct. I'm not even sure it's legal. It just got suddenly introduced around 2yrs ago and I'm fairly sure that money is going into a SAPO officials pocket. Would love for journalist to follow the money trail and see where its going.

Well, just ordered an item from Aliexpress, will see how long its going to take to get to me. I think I will be generous and give it 2 months.

The R28 is actually a Customs charge. I had to pay it for personal mail that was forwarded. Health and Customs held it for a week and then charged R28!

The counter clerk in our Post Office was sitting at his desk asleep. I asked his colleague when he might wake up and was told he is on tea.

The R28 is a customs clearance fee which is charged by the South African Post Office for clearing the parcel / package on your behalf. Any duties or taxes will be added on top of this and will be added to your bill to the Post Office. This fee is payable to the post office for any parcel going through Customs, whether duties or taxes are levied or not. The Post Office added this fee to increase its revenue.

MyBroadband asked the SA Post Office for comment regarding its latest marketing campaign, but the company did not reply by the time of publication.

By the way, in terms of this fee, if you are buying high valued articles and are willing to purchase shipping insurance, this is the way to go. The people at customs are all illiterate and unable to perform their work. You could actually save a lot of money, if you are prepared to pay insurance and willing to wait a long time.

Earlier this year I won an auction on eBay for a R120k article. Through the GSP on eBay, my import taxes and duties, along with clearance fees would have worked out at R195k.

So, I decided to pay shipping insurance and had it posted via normal USPS mail.

Yes, as expected, it took 4 months, but the parcel arrived at my local post office. I went there and collected it and only paid R28.

What an absolute pile of BS.

Mark Barnes needs a massive pay cut, he's delusional.

MyBB doing a bit of paid advertising again.
