Yup -- and as anyone that can read Tea Leaves will tell you

This is the ANC answer to NON service delivery to the masses.

"Hey perps -- looky here -- FREE TV -- all the better to brainwash you with"

Ssshh -- "We stole it from "Whitey"

We already pay enough in tax for services we don't use. Privatise the SABC and if it shuts down I won't miss it.

It looks as if it may be a political power play more than anything else. Hopfully it won't go through.

Remember they need sabc for propaganda purposes, not just the TV, sabc radio is the one mostly played in all the rural areas. It has a very far reach to the masses.

They really need to keep this "machine" going, or they lose contact with the masses. The nats used it, and they are using it too. Only they can't run it profitably so have the nerve to expect that tax payers run it.

No, YOU are incorrect, the bill actually reads as follows:

(3) The basis and manner of contributions in respect of subsection (2)(a)(c) and (d) must must not exceed 1 percent of the total income and annual turnover per annum for persons identified as determined by the Minister in consultation with the Minister of Finance by notice in the Gazette.

To me that means: 1 percent of the total income per year which means, if you earn R100 000 a year, you will be paying R1000 a year in additional tax.

This is classic socialist practice.... I wonder how long it will take before people realize what is actually happening in South Africa (Our democracy is nothing more than a farce and a smokescreen for the implementation of socialism)

Yep. The SABC is now part of the propaganda machine, which will now also be used for managed dissent.

The Department of Communications appears to be emerging as the first institution to mount a direct assault on the authority of the Finance Ministry, proposing in legislation a direct tax which would double the SABC licence fee.

...

For example, the SABC has four reporters assigned to covering the Presidency, an indulgence that most news managers around the world would consider gratuitous even for the most authoritarian of government news gathering systems.

Say hello to the socialist state of SA...2015 is the SACP goal for total takeover.

Look around your office...not even the most obnoxious, loud mouthed a**hole there, is going to compare with being ordered to work, by primary school educated, rapists and murderers and robbers, using the guise of socialism to kill, rape and plunder, to enrich themselves en masse...

Guys, the possible effect of this is very worrying. It is a power play, but the long & short is if unopposed, it will go through. Many people don't like the idea of a television license but the two options now are a) stick to the current system of R250 p/a payable by TV owners, or b) an additional 1% income tax. There is no '**** them, I won't pay for this ****' option - it will be handled by SARS and that's the end of it.

I would urge you all to make use of the facilities noted above, and send your comments. Remember these comments will end up before the legislature so 2 pages of spewing obscenities won't get anything done. However sick it sounds, it's time to 'do the right thing' and have your voices heard. Keep it as it is or come back with a better proposal - THIS is not on...

Let Them Rot!

So where is the 3rd option ... "let them rot"?

I chose not to vote because I do not watch their crud and therefore I am loathe to pay a single cent in any form whatsoever.

I loathe the idea of tax just as much as a fee. Because I pay tax and thousands don't, it means I am now subsidising their television and I get squat benefit from it

there should be third option to vote, none of the above. what i think of this crap i cannot say in this forum.

I abstained too

I do not even have any means to pick up a TV signal... no DSTV, no aerial, no reception... why the hell should I have to pay for a service that I can not and do not use... why is it that ETV is able to survive with out charging the public tax or license fees? meanwhile SABC charges the fees and still runs itself into the ground...?

there is a poll on the news24.com site as well...

this was the latest result:

Id prefer if they did this to improve medical services.
I dont see how making television free for the poor is going to change much in our country. This seems to be just to cover a companies ass who has a dying business model. Sorry had.

Now SABC will be flying private jet's to the next olympics.

hmm... thanks for reminding us about the New National Health Insurance which will be coming into effect next year... :(
