Sahara rolls out gaming PC

I would have added an extra gig ram, but the rest of the spec is pretty decent for all games except tech demos like Crysis.
 
i dont think that that machine is a gaming rig though

well not extreme anyhow

extreme would be
q6600
3 gig memory maybe 4 depending on os
2 x 8800gt's or 2 x 3870's
2 x hdd is raid
vista (because its the best) hahaha jokes :)

now thats extreme

what would be even more extreme is 4 3870's :)
 
You forgot the liquid nitrogen cooling. :D

The Sahara machine does however look like it will play games fine without breaking the bank. (With an extra Gig.)

That obviously isn't the gaming PC that they are talking about in this article.

I doubt a 2600Pro will play many games decently.

Sorry, I do not think I can post that, it being dealer prices and all that.

Also, have to agree I would not personally buy a 2600 Pro, but then my last graphics card cost nearly as much as the whole Sahara PC. One has to consider both price and performance. Not everybody is serious enough about gaming to buy top graphics cards.

Nothing wrong with the hardware AFAICS. This could be a standard gaming computer and then for the rest the graphic cards is to be upgraded to something suitable to allow the "special" game to play.

My only strife is that motherboard price the same as ASUS Maximus formula. Thus no contest until reviews show different!

This is more like false advertising. The 2600 pro will not run all games at high. Had one of those and its not ideal for games.

Imagine all the poor sods that will be scammed out of their money for a pc that can barely play games at native 17" LCD resolution. :eek:

It "can literally run any game available on the local market and will not experience any freeze or distortion, irrespective of the technical specifications of the game" that is older than a year. New stuff will not be as happy.

Are'nt there laws against BS'ing the public? At best they can market this thing as a great Multimedia PC

It is the only pre-built PC on their price list that has "games" in the title. But as you say, they may have another one that is not on the price list or will only be listed next week. I would not know.

I am also wondering why they do not stock the 8800GT.

i phoned and asked them and nobody there knew why the 8800gt would be a hit

they think the 8800gts 320 meg is faster

yea it says games, it does not say extreme gaming pc though :)

You are missing the point. It's not just about CPUs. We even sold a couple of Intel boxes last year. Sahara is going to loose all of that business. AMD CPU's, a couple of Intel CPU's and also all of the other peripherals that go along with CPUs. As an example, I doubt that Telkom make any money off the Prepaid phone special directly (R200 for a whole year) but if you start to take into account the money they make on other phone calls to that phone and the potential for the person to move up to a bigger deal, then it makes sense. If AMD was only accounting for 10% of Sahara CPU sales then that could have an effect of cutting 10% off all of their sales.

amd are basically screwed because intel have a cpu that performs and is priced better than any amd cpu

Yes, a CPU. And how many typical businesses and individuals buy the top end CPU's? In all likelyhood, they could get a better deal on the system they are buying by using an AMD CPU. It's not just about the top end of the market. Sahara probably got a kick back from Intel to cut the AMD stuff. If I were you, I would pray that AMD is not screwed because no AMD would translate into a 300% increase in CPU prices across the board. I was around back in the days when AMD first released their 386 compatible CPU's and it made a huge difference to Intel's pricing. Competition is good, just ask Telkom :)
