Sahara rolls out gaming PC

I doubt very much that the specs posted by gkm have anything to do with the OP. Not even sahara are stupid enough to call a pc with 1gb 667 RAM an extreme gaming rig.
 
I doubt that as said above the ad is wrt to that item in their pricelist, that listing has been a prebuild pc for some time now, they dont really relate to the ad.

I mentioned before I do not know if this is the same machine as the OP one, but it is the only possible match from the price list and sahara website. But maybe it is still being released or whatever.

On your second sentence: Some examples I got with Googling "extreme gaming PC" limited to SA other than the Sahara news release:

Sadly, 1GB seems to be the standard for "extreme gaming PC's" and half that for normal gaming PCs. :confused: From my quick scan I could not find an example with 2GB in a prebuilt configuration. I guess that is why people that really play games like me and probably you have to custom build PCs.
 
Hi All

The Extreme name is a registered brand name of Sahara and is being used on our new range of gaming and multimedia PCs for the high-end market.

To remove some confusion, the unit mentioned on our pricelist is for the Quad Core system which was part of our release of the Quad Core with Intel, and part of our technology roadshow held last year.

We are currently building a new range of systems for the high-end consumer market with the brand name for the range being "Extreme". This was not mentioned in the press release unfortunately.

Also, we do not currently do the distribution of MSI motherboards. It was one of our products previously, but we have since moved to the Foxconn and Intel motherboard products for our system builds.

We have taken note of all the comments given on this forum, and will take your recommendations into account when releasing new items in this range. If myadsl wish to review any Sahara products, they may contact myself to arrange this, and they could give a good report back to all the forum participants...

To clarify the specs for our initial release in this range, they are as follows:
Intel "Pearl Creek" Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6850
2 X Hynix 512mb DDR2 667 Memory Modules
Gaming Chassis
500W PSU
Foxconn Nvidia PCI Express 8600GTS 256mb GDDR3
Samsung SATA2 20x Sata DVD-Writer
Sahara Card Reader
Creative SBS580 5.1 Speaker System
Windows XP Pro
Internal 56k Fax Modem

And an Intel board for all your extreme overclocking. :)

Sahara should probably think of a real gaming machine with a graphics card that isn't in the 8600 series. Who could possibly have put this PC together and not thought of a HD3850 for almost the same price?

Then up it to 2GB (no idea how you could use 2X512 these days either) and its not a bad system.

Don't dis the 512MB ... I use 4 of them in my PC ... for 2 reasons ... its almost unnoticeably faster ... but faster none the less and worked out cheaper ... besides, my pc can't support 4GB :(

Using all 4 slots is usually slower, and 512 works out to be more expensive these days. And only using 2X512. :(
 
when u hear extreme gaming machine

you want to see

4 gig mem
quadcore
gtx or ultra

those specs just show sahara has no frikken idea what a gaming machine is

From all the technicians I've spoken to ... having 4 512mb as opposed to 2 x 1GB is faster as the ram has 4 routes to move ... like a 4 lane highway as opposed to 2 lanes
 
I think the word "extreme" is just used differently. It is a trademark according to Sahara which means it is only a name and not a description imho. Therefore it could as well have been "blue" gaming machine
 
Not a extreme gaming machine at all but have to consider who they are targeting to buy it, not many people can afford a q6600, 8800gt etc..
 
I once test 2 x 512 vs 1 x 1gb, and in that test the 1 x1gb was by far faster. And i didn't need benchies to see the difference, it was very obvious.
 
I got different results when I did a similar test ... maybe memory has moved along since then. Its not exactly expensive to change ... but ATM I'm happy :P
 
While we on the topic, which would be better for Vista?

2x 1gb Corsair VS =2gb
or
2x 1gb Corsair VS + 2x 512mb Hynix = 3gb
