Salary increase

Indeed, revenue and profit are two different things.

As he metnioned, thanks to us...If fixed and to some degree variable costs are kept the same (e.g. no increase in staff), and sales improved.

0% this year . . . But they did offer me a huge cash defined bounus if certain criteria are met last week friday.

But its time to move on as some people have been waiting 4 to 6 years for their cash bounus to pay out.

A new year and a new ****ty increase.... last year 6%, this year HR is predicting in the 4% area. Damn....

It looks like we are in for about a 6% on average, with maybe a half a % up or down depending on performance.

Doesn't really bug me, especially considering that throughout the economic downturn and hard times we didn't lose a single job, unlike many other big companies.

Whats the CPI at the moment? I received a 5% increase so I need to know whether I actually became poorer after this increase.

Current CPI is 6.1. Sorry boet.
Looks like I'm going to be in the market soon then...

Slightly OT, why does management state in the letter (the one stating your increase) that salasries are only to be discussed with management / HR and not amongst staff? Or is it only my company doing that?

I don't think you can. I seem to remember seeing it mentioned in the Basic Conditions of Employment that you may discuss it with other staff members.

rumour has it we are getting 2%, 5.5%, and the lucky ones 7% increase...(our salary bands are split into 3 groups - over, middle & underpaid)

It causes issues with other people. If i earn R20k, you earn R12k and you are working harder then me, you will get pissed off and cause sh#t. Thus making the companies life hell, work enviroment akward etc etc.

I only get my increase in september. It better be Fsken good as i've worked my face off the past 6 months.

Our comapny has that in there too. It's simple. Companies want to try and get away with as much of your soul for as little as possible. Your minimum salary might be less that another guy doing the same amount of work, so why would they pay you more than what you are willing to work for? Discussing salaries might result in arguments about inequality and what not.

I don't think anyone gives a hoot about that though, and the employers know everyone is talking about it in any case, but because that section is in there, they know that even if the information is "public", no one will be able to use it come increase time, because they cannot use information they are not suppose to have.... if that makes sense.

No. I remember seeing it mentioned in the Basic Conditions of Employment that you may discuss it with other staff members.

Because in some companies people dont get the same salary increase. If word gets out, the management will have a riot on their hands.

Its also put in your employement contract that you may not discuss your salary with anyone other than HR.

In my previous co it was a dismissable offence... I tested it :D hence the word *previous*

Well this is my third year without an increase so my salary has effectively decreased by about 21% ... excluding inflation :(
