Samsung Galaxy S

Just ordered my galaxy from handtec, SUPER STOKED, just need to know of the additional cost that i will pay when it arrives at customs and how will they debit my credit card. Other than that i guess the waiting begins and the anticipation builds.

I ordered the 8GB one from Handtec and was charged R1133.69 by customs. The UPS people should contact you about it on or before the day of delivery and send you the details to pay.

@AJKock: Cheaper and faster to order from the UK.

@Maddmatt: The one I mentioned is imported and includes customs. Is yours still cheaper?

If they give you crap about needing your ID tc, just phone them.
It costs about the same as a local cellphone call.

Much cheaper. Added up to about R5600 in total, took 4 days to arrive and they even included a South African charger (although I don't know if they always do that) :)

Yup, 7400 is a rip off. I also imported mine

Thanks Maddmatt for the info, how long did you have to wait from date of order to delivery?

Their support person told me it usually takes about 5 working days. Mine took 4 days, ordered Monday last week and the phone arrived on Friday.

How good and reliable is GPS in GalaxyS ? seems there is some issues with it?

Some people experience problems with it in the stock firmware. I tested it once with the hacked Google Navigation, it would randomly lose accuracy and think I was on a nearby road when I was driving on the freeway. Could have been due to trees or something blocking the signal.
While in a parked car on a clear day it got down to 5 meter accuracy which I'd say is very good.

It's supposed to be much better in newer firmware, although you can only get that firmware through unofficial sources at the moment (as far as I know). I have flashed newer firmware, will give it a test when I drive home from university tomorrow.

I used to only get to near about 50m accuracy with stock firmware. But with the newer firmware i can get to 5m accuracy quite quickly, plus it seems to keep lock well while driving also.
I now use Co-Pilot since Google maps was a nightmare. Worth the money.

I got 100% accurate positioning with both new and stock firmware. I used CoPilot GPS though, not google

Yeah i forgot to mention only started using Co Pilot with the new firmware, so my problems with the old firmware could just have been google maps being useless again.

Give UPS a call to find out. Their staff are very good. Strangely they don't provide email support, guess they're behind the times.
