Samsung Galaxy S

Good stuff. Will try it out now.
Did you use anything to back up your apps?

I tried... Titanium Backup but didn't work somehow. After some more testing it seems that the new firmware slows down as soon as you use multitasking. Otherwise great

Well if you decide to change your fonts make sure you use a True Type Font.
There is a post on XDA about it. I supposedly didn't use a TTF and the phone would not boot :o
Had to reflash the firmware. What a drag!

MTN have the Galaxy S on their latest deal sheets. Any idea when this phone will be available locally?

I phoned MTN Direct and the lady said it's not available yet, maybe September... :(

September should be great that's when my CellCrap contract expire.

Any news on the release date for vodascum yet ? , It's august and still no one is able to tell us anything ?.

This sounds like a great phone but I'm a bit worried by some of the reports I'm reading about GPS problems - not getting a lock, inaccurate etc. Can anyone who has one of these comment?

Yea veethree the GPS has been losing accuracy for me on freeways. But getting a lock is fine. See my previous posts about this.
Samsung is apparently working on a fix, sounds like a software problem. I only tried the hacked Google Navigation though.

Never had that problem with mine. Those who have that problem solved it by upgrading the firmware. Android 2.2 for the phone will officially released within a few weeks, that will also solve it. Further, the problem occurs only with google maps, you can use CoPilot instead and you have no problem at all. Plus there's a million other fixes.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. GPS is an important function for me so it's good to know it's not an insolvable problem.

For me too, I've been using copilot and am quite happy. If you spend some time configuring and readin stuff up you can even import tom toms speed camera data. There's also other programs if you're willing to spend some cash

They also do not list the HTC Disire so I'm not so sure if that link is actualy up to date.

Kept getting SMS's from MTN about my contract renewal and that a Ant** would phone me. I eventually phoned him.

I told him I will renew once Samsung Galaxy S is available, he comfirmed it is on the list and he would contact me once stock has arrived in about a week - (over ambitious I think).
