Yeah I ordered one ages ago! Unfortunately I'm in Dbn for a week and I think the jig probably has arrived and is sitting in my mailbox in Jhb. FFS.

I just read now that you do need a jig. I think I can use that KG2 firmware that I downloaded earlier to unroot and go back to stock. Just need the counter rest and this phone can go! :(

Did you charge to full then remove battery stats (via CWM)?
Also put it through a few charge cycles. It will settle down.

I get that much usage during the day after calls, messages, browsing, etc... and about 10 hours off charge.

Yes I recalibrated the battery like that. This was left overnight while I was sleeping. My main problem is the poor Wifi, battery usage, and the oddly high data usage when it's supposed to be idle. If I can solve those, I'll be happy. If this is normal, then no point returning it.

Did you do a full wipe before installing Touch-X? As far as I know, Touch-X REQUIRES a full wipe?
I would normally say that is is definitely a rouge app or widget causing your high data usage and 'Awake' time - but you don't have much installed.
Your phone is doing something in the background, like checking something or syncing, when it should be sleeping.

Before you go to the extreme of returning the phone, maybe do a FULL wipe (wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, and wipe Dalvik cache), and reinstall the ROM. Charge it to full again, and wipe battery stats via CWM. Do not install any apps or widgets, then try leave it over night to see if you get battery drain, and check if you have large chunks of "Awake" time when your screen is off.

The return is because of bad wifi no matter which ROM or modem. The other issues are just additional pains.
It is looking like a plain hardware fault.

Hello! Yes I did a full wipe of all of those things. I made sure not to restore anything from backup and I did wipe battery stats. I installed 3G watchdog and app killer to close any random stuff that was open before I left it to sleep and monitor my usage.

My email is causing the data sucking I think. I installed Droidwall and data gets used when I allow Email access. Is it normal for that to happen? It's absolutely pointless to own a phone like this and block emails because it saps data. I must be missing some settings?

Either way the wifi connectivity is disappointing, if that was normal for this phone then I'd just live with it.

Will wipe again tonight and run more tests!

Hi there,

from your screenshots, it is clearly visible that your phone is awake most of the times... even when your screen is off (you being asleep). Install the app BetterBatteryStats & CPUSpy from the market, and see whats causing those "wakelocks".
With cpuspy, you can see if your phone is going into "deep sleep"... But yeh, as advised, do a couple more battery charge cycles and see...

Cheers
D

Awesome, thanks for your help guys. I will try that out...tbh I'd return this now if I could, it's a new phone and I shouldn't be wasting my own (and your) time troubleshooting it when things should be behaving!

Hi Gents...need some assistance.

I've rooted and flashed already. Now I'm just slightly confused as to how to go about using a custom rom and more importantly what rom to use.

My phone info is as follows:

Android version: 2.3.4
Baseband version: I9100XXKG2
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XXKG2-CL375027 se.infra@SEI-21 #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XXKG2

Please could someone let me know which rom would be best and how to go about romming.

Thanks!

Go to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1058

Then you choose a custom rom. Then you follow the steps they provide using odin. But it is quite simple as you have already flashed your device. I currently have lite'ning 1.6.

I am currently quite noobish went it comes to custom roms and stuff but I am sure one of the more informed forum posters can give you a more detailed explanation.

I think you mean Lite'ning 6.1, not 1.6 :)

whoops...:D

yes 6.1
I am busy downloading villainROM now. Seems with Lite'ning the GPS is buggered. Anyone having the same GPS problems? It worked fine when it was stock? Any suggestions?

ok thanks guys but are custom roms android version, baseband version and kernel dependant? or would any custom rom work on any phone regardless of the different versions?

The ROM runs independant. The modem and kernel should pair up but don't have to (AFAIK).
You get some ROMs that flash everything (Like Touch X-Treme) where you get an already matching kernal and modem. You won't brick your device by trying different kernels and modems, but you may notice performance issues, wireless issues, etc... Not all modems are created equal and you have to find one that works best on your network.
I am finding great battery life, performance and wireless connectivity on the Touch X-Treme ROM (KH3 modem).

What happens when I do a factory reset/full wipe with CWM?

Does it revert my sgs2 to the standard rom?

Were you trying out that Dark Knight rom, Mike? Or whatever it's called lol. I'm gonna give it a go since I want to wipe my phone clean again. Seems similar to txtreme kh3.

Ye - I tried it. Lasted about 1.5 days on it and re-flashed to something else. Pretty much gone through all the ROM's at XDA as well as kernels, modems, blah blah. Settled back on Touch X-Treme SP2 and kept it stock. Works the best IMO.
