Samsung Galaxy S2

CellC might be the cheapest with data but they'll be the most expensive with this phone because they do not stock such high-end phones in general - their market is lower- to middle-income. Also, if you do want this phone from them, they'll order it - they do not keep stock because it's too expensive.

When I upgraded, I wanted to port my number back to CellC but that was going to cost me R1 600 pay-in for the phone plus connection fee plus SIM fee. In the end, it was better to just stay on MTN and pay just R1 100 for the phone plus an upgrade fee. In fact, you can get this phone with no pay-in on Anytime 350 contracts and above.

What MTN shop did you go to? I got my phone they day it came out on MTN, im paying R339 on anytime 200 with no pay-in...

Interesting... I got my SGS2 on CellC ActiveChat 220, no pay-in, for just R280pm incl vat, CLI, itemised billing. Also I just walked in, signed up, walked out with a shiny awesome new SGS2. Maybe they just slow in the cape....
Sure it is an Active Chat 220? Cell C site says Active Chat 100 for R 280.00 with CLI, Itemized Billing and the C Sure.

Reason I'm asking is I'm going to get the phone on Friday and want to ensure I get best deal.

Ok, granted that I'm with Autopage, they might just operate a bit differently than the direct cell shops.

I'm just glad for now that I've got the SGS2, no matter what crappy network I am on and the fact that they defaulted my data usage to topping up my bundle every time it gets depleted (on my previous contract, it would go over to out-of-bundle but the rate was something like R0.65/meg)- been topped up twice now already. I did request a bigger bundle though, knowing the phone's propensity to use data. Limiting data usage for now by switching off 3G and Wi-Fi; only switch it on when I need it. This in turn have scored me battery life for 2 days.

I checked out the reasons why people root, and I just can't see the advantage for a Galaxy S2.

There aren't any hardware limitations I can feel, the OS is fantastic, every app I have wanted so far I have found on the market... It would seem the main reason for rooting is getting the latest kernel on a device where the manufacturer don't have an official version yet. But with the SGS2 running 2.3.3 we have all the functunality we want :) for now at least.

I have not found that.. sadly. :(

I would like

a) The ability to create a PPPoE connection to an ISP via my Wifi for the phone.
b) Setup a global phone proxy for a specific wifi connection.

There are others but those are the two things I want to do now.... Rooting required :(

Anyone successfully got a custom boot animation working? I can't get it to work. Running custom kernel (HellCatDroid) and rooted. Also running stock 2.3.4.

I am running Villianrom and it comes with quite a sexy boot animation.

All the time :) I swap roms, kernels and sometimes modems. Always trying something else to try get perfection (or satisfy an addiction :) ).

Awesome. So I shouldn't have any problems then? :p Would you mind letting me know which kernels you tried/switched to thus far? :)

To those pondering rooting, just do it! :) root explorer, samba fileshare, titanium backup, screenshots, droidwall etc are all worth it. But it also depends on what you utilise your device for. If you are a power user, then rooting is a must. If u happy with standard features then I guess its not really necessary.

Also, to those worried about warranty issues- most techies don't even care if u rooted or flashed another rom, coz they have done the same to their own android most probably! And even if they do mind, I think it costs something like R100 at any samtech to reflash firmwares etc if u bricked.
