Would anyone be interested in an South African SGII Users Thread on XDA so all south africans can discuss everything about the SGII?

I don't see the point, myself. What's particularly interesting about being South African in this context?

I think an SA thread would be good, because some of the people on their on from SA but are not here. It would group us together and we may be able to help with region specific topics (ISP problems, best modems for here etc)

Speaking of which ... which modem is best for SA Vodacom? Are there any tools one can use to determine it?

KL1 modem and the recent LP ones are good. For reception you can go to settings-about-status-signal strength (-50dbm is better than -60dbm)

For Speed use SpeedTest App on Market. When testing be in the same position and test it for a few days and similar times of day and compare with other modems

Why do people prefer Chrome over the standard browser? It looks like much the same thing to me

Hay guys I've recently been considering rooting my Galaxy S2 so that I can play Tegra games via Chainfire3D. I just want to know what is the safest way of doing this and what the chances are of bricking my phone. I also thought that while I was at it I could flash it with an ICS rom. What is the best ROM for ICS, and also all other above questions count for this too. Thanks for any assistance.

to root your phone download a program called superoneclick, its the easiest way to do it imo.

@ OGroteKoning - I found on vodacom, in my area (Durban) that KL1 gives me the best voice quality, but as with all Sg2's this may not be the same for you lol

@ Pakka - As Bryn26 said, dolphin browser HD is really nice. Or Opera mini as a result of the bandwidth saves it gives.

I just loaded the Superuser file with BusyBox included onto my sdcatd, together with the CMW.zip. Then install SU through recovery and CMW. I posted a link to it in an earlier thread about the easiest way to route the phone... I think its a few pages back.... Really easy, and i find it to work great as a one click sort of thing.....

LP7 is MUCH smoother, and has more fixes. LPQ felt like a Beta ROM while LP7 is truely the ICS we've all been waiting for, i had LPQ for a day, it was okay then got LP7, id highly recommend getting LP7 to everyone, forget LPQ, its buggy.

Definitely agree with you.

I FINALLY got off my lazy ass and installed the LP7 firmware - it is superb.

What I really like :

- the whole experience is buttery smooth and superfast
- new Gmail app is just beautiful, hell, I just want to send emails :)
- new YouTube app is just as nice, there goes my 10GB 8ta bundle
- new Google Maps looks supersexy with transparent taskbar
- Google Navigation get GPS lock fast and Roboto font makes it even better
- 1080p videos has got eye-popping colors in the Video Player....dunno what they did, but it just look fantastic. and smooth
- music player is just as nice
- WhatsApp now has a orange border around text and if you've installed the wallpaper option, it displays it in landscape mode, just love it and want to WhatsApp people. ;)
- Face Unlock works really quick + you can have the local weather + clock on lockscreen as well
- Google Chrome beta is nice, the default webkit browser has been shelved
- Facebook feels more responsive
- no region specific apps installed on the phone, it's clean. (had an annoying digilesen app when I installed Dutch Gingerbread firmware)

EVERYTHING WORKS!

No negatives, except for me playing way too much with my "new" toy now. :)

Highly recommend the LP7 firmware, it's a keeper.

I don't see why everyone is using lp7? Intratech said he's waiting for the official UK version to be released on Monday, which is tomorrow. Lpq is definitely good enough for an extra day or two.

I'm quite happy using LPQ. It's smooth, and responsive for me, much better than GB. I'm using Nova, and set it as primary launcher, and as a result, stopped the TWLauncher service from the Apps menu, and what can I say, not a single slow down or FC. If it does want to FC, it opens right back up.....

LP7 looks good, but I'm going to hold out untill a proper stable ROM comes out before I flash again....

LP7 is a stable ROM - it is an official Samsung ROM.

Oh, just wanted to say that the Radio app is perfect now - reception is much better!

Thanks Samsung!
