Flashed ICS(4.0.3) MIUI 2.3.16 onto my SGS 2 at like 5 this morning doing an upgrade from GB(2.3.7) MIUI 2.3.9.

Went well beside the boot loop as I forgot I had to clear the cache and do a factory reset before flashing the .zip :D

Says my
Baseband: XXKH3
Kernel: XXLPH

So which version of ICS am I on? I assume the Kernel version right?
Must say it uses about 25% more RAM than GB did, but no complaints otherwise.

It's where your phone does not wake up (show the unlock screen) when pressing the power button, you just get a black screen.

I have experienced this with earlier ICS roms but not yet on the latest ones. They seem to be pretty much bugless. The problem could most likely be with either the rom itself or something that you installed.

Yes, I have. Had it a few times with LPQ. Thought it was fixed with LP7..but spoke too soon!! Had it about an hour ago :-|
I have to hold down power button for 5-10 sec to reset phone but then battery shows huge sudden drop (ie from 70% before SOD to 15% after reset)

This was driving me insane, I have installed Load Monitor and the problem is gone completely. The problem now is that Load Monitor is chewing up some battery life on its own so I need a more perma fix.

I went from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6 to 4.03 LPH with the same issue so im thinking its hardware related :(

Why do I get the feeling Samsung's ICS firmware is a bit buggy?

I'm running LP7 & haven't had any problems so far (in fact, it's very good), but it's still early days.

So can we go backwards and forth between ICS and Gingerbread with Odin, or is it a difficult process?

I have been running stock rooted LPQ for about a week now and haven't had a SOD (touch wood). Maybe you should give one of the latest stock ROMS a go. I have to add however that in the 2 months or so that I have been running ICS on my phone I have only had the SOD about 3 times, and as I said before it was on early ICS roms.

Thanks, I am looking to make the jump to LP7 so lets see how that goes? The chaps on LP7 is it a Vanilla ICS or Samsung'd firmware?

I am still on the stock 2.3.5 ROM, XWKI4 and it appears that I have a problem with my "samsung mobile usb modem", so that I cannot root the phone or even connect to Kies (although Kies Air works). Using Kies (latest Kies version 2.2.0.12014_18) the connection screen just continues to try to connect. The troubleshooting function also does not help, since it cannot find the drivers (see below).

I also tried using the Download mode (restart pressing volume down, Home, Power and then volume up). On connecting via USB the phone then gets recognized and the Driver Software Installation box pops up, installing 3 drivers: "samsung mobile usb composite device" installs correctly, showing "Ready to use", but the 2nd and 3rd drivers: "samsung mobile mtp device" as well as "samsung mobile usb modem" fails.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on a Lenovo laptop.

I have not had any help from Samsung and could also not find anything here or on XDA.

I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks

I went back and forth between GB and ICS about 3 times now, but I restored previous GB nand backups

It looks like GB!!

First things first ... get rid of Kies. If you want to root, Kies won't let you. I use Odin. TBH, I don't think you have a problem with your modem, I think it is just Kies saying that (I could be wrong)

Two things you could try:
1. Go to Samsung Kies software, on top left of the window, click the menu > Driver recovery.
Let it reinstall drivers
After driver installation finished, go to your phone, Settings> Application > Development, tick USB debugging mode.
Under USB debugging mode connect your phone to the PC with USB.
Installation hopefully successful
Disconnect from PC
Untick USB debugging mode
Connect again
(off XDA, but copied to some personal notes, so I can't link to source)

2. Try a different USB port - sometimes makes a difference.

But if you are planning to root, Kies is a) useless and b) needs to be quit (or uninstalled) in any case to run Odin.

Oh, I must add that when I first installed LP7, I did an upgrade from Gingerbread 2.3.6 and apps started misbehaving pretty soon.

So then I did a factory reset and started all over. No problems yet.

I did the same, at roughly the same time :-P hehe.. but i just restored to my CheckRom RevoHD V6 install with the NAND backup i made.
Reason is I found it has way to many bugs still (hey its the first release so what do you expect). Many Force Closes.
I did a complete wipe when I installed it. runs smooth. for some reason titanium backup did not want to restore my apps, it restored like 2 of them and just hanged there trying to install the others. i waited. nothing. i force closed, rebooted, tried again. same prob. then I just restored my CheckROM install. smooth, sweet, fast, beautiful with ICS Domination, great battery life and tweaked to perfection for me.

Whats your experience been with MIUI v4?

You on 4.0.3. Check out the Scotland version 2.3.19. For me it's more stable than 2.3.16, plus they've also included Samsung apps if it does make a difference in your life.

Now to try TB and see if stuff can be restored.

It's better than 2.3.16. Gallery works, Gmail works and Gtalk, so far no FC's. There is only one thing they still need to changed, the dialer.

Does anyone know when ICS will officially be released here? I thought it would be the 19th since our phones aren't locked by carriers. Samsung won't reply over the messages on Twitter.

So I'm wondering where all the new official ROMs are?

Nothing on XDA since LP7.

Okay. Tried it for more than a week but I am going to flash back to GB for now.

Plenty of bugs and glitches experienced after I initially thought there were no problems.

* Battery drain. Battery does not last even 1 day where I easily got almost 2 days out of it. Moderate usage.
* Phone just freezes at times. Apps crash and screen and buttons are non-responsive.
* Big data usage on the e-mail app when on mobile data. I got a massive shock when I checked my 3G usage over the weekend (was away from wi-fi). In a matter of 3 hours it used more than 100mb of data. Switched off data for the rest of the weekend and occasionally enabled it to check Twitter and Whatsapp messages. Then the email app would just drain data again.
* Very strange behaviour at times with phone calls. I would hang up from a call and immediately the phone would ring and show an incoming call from one of my contacts. But then you cannot answer or cancel the call. And not one of those times did those persons call me. I know because my wife was sitting next to me two of the times it happened and it showed she was calling me. Very weird.

Yup, I also went back to Gingerbread 2.3.6 today.

The battery drain is noticeable.

I will let Samsung sort out the ICS firmware before I attempt it again.

*Had a fright when I first booted up with Gingerbread, cos I didn't do a factory reset before I flashed it back to GB. There was still ICS on my phone....but I rebooted, held down power, volume up and home button, got the recovery screen and just wiped everything from there.

After that, happy days with Gingerbread again. :)
