Samsung Galaxy S2

Agreed the S2 is a fantastic device. it's fast as anything out there... The screen is damn good, the apps are also top class on this device. Movies, web surfing, multimedia is all a breeze with this phone... You won't look back, not to anything else...

Can someone explain why I need Odin (Mobile pro) when I already have CWM?

Mobile Odin Pro you use the flash stock firmware updates, not new or other ROM's. You use it so you don't need to do it via Odin on the PC and a usb cable, you can do it from wherever.

Only useful if you are sticking with the stock Touchwiz experience (meh)

Anyone using Dragon-ICS ROM? Any other suggestions? D4-ROM has gone to a table/Hybrid mode, and I don't like it. Besides, I'm having trouble with it not ringing when a call comes in.

I downloaded Hydrogren ICS and wescrips rom as well, but Im too happy with checkrom v6 (yes its gb). Im waiting for checkrom to release their ICS rom before I update. Im tired of beta testing ICS... apparently checkrom ICS will be out sometime in June, and I can wait. stability and speed in that order. every ICS rom I have tried these is some issue somewhere, no matter how arbitrary it is, its annoying... It must just work... like checkrom v6 :D

Why you guys so against touchWiz? What's the advantage of not having it?
Nothing, I suppose. There are advantages to using Stock ROMs - but I like the extras I get from custom ROMS.

BTW, I've installed Dragon ICS. Based on AOKP, and really nice. :)

Amen brother! It will also be less of a battery drain than ICS ... even with Speedmod!

My perfect combo was XWLA4, KL1/KI4 modem, ICS Domination with Soeedmod kernel ... bliss ...

Touchwiz is outdated. It has in real terms not improved. When you start playing around with custom roms, a lot of proper ICS features are unlocked - as if someone actually did some effort to improve on touchwiz. The biggest problem with ICS is that you don't really realise you have upgraded. It is the same look and on certain Sammy firmwares a worse feel. You'd eve find that the battery drains faster. From tests done on XDA, LPS is the most battery friendly, but that is not even as good as XWLA4 was. I digressed a bit but the point is that with custom roms, you get the actual ICS feel that was supposed to hit our phones. And the custom roms are "lighter" than Sammy roms - meaning less or no bloatware.

EDIT: Go check out some of the screenshots of the many custom roms and come back and tell us you don't think the look is awesome. You would understand ... ;)

Am now the owner of a SGS2.
So far so good.
Will look at ICS update over the weekend
Congradulations! Welcome, still an amazing superphone this :)

Enjoy your Galaxy S2!!

It is a fantastic phone, which still manages to wow me every single day.

I love my S2. ;)

You know, I always founded it odd when people said they love a device, but at that time I didnt own a S2 :D ,im loving mine, im not sure if i'll get a S3, part of me (the logical part) thinks I should wait for A15 based smartphones, but other part (the Liker of things) thinks I should get it.

CheckRom V6 is as stable as possible for me.
Have never gotten a single lockup/reboot/whatever.

Battery life is great still has all the touchwizz tweaks like:
screenshot key combo (home + power),
slide at top notification bar for brightness,
slide left on a contact to msg,
slide right on a contact to call,
three finger swipe on a list scrolls continuously,
...just to mention a few.

I see no need for ICS and I use my phone and depend on it. I am not gonna be a beta tester. Will wait for ICS to mature.

I am also on DragonICS, I love his ROM's.
He used to do brilliant MIUI ROMs, but he says v4 MIUI is still too baggy.

After having the official Samsung ICS Netherlands ROM on my phone for two weeks, I did a factory reset and put the official Netherlands Gingerbread 2.3.6 ROM back on my S2. And now it will stay there for as long as I have my Galaxy S2.

The battery drain started irritating me and I've come to realize that I really missed the Droid Sans font on my S2, just looks so beautiful on the Super Amoled + display.

Happy as a pig in mud. :D

I flashed the Netherlands ICS on my wifes device and a mates. Was not happy.
Flashed CM9 for both of them and everyone happy now.

After much deliberation, I think I am going to wait. The improvement over the S2 is only evolutionary IMO, the S2 is still very fast in completing tasks, and extremely well supported by the developer community, so new ways will always be figured out to improve performance. I'll wait for S4 or equivalent (or A15+ based phones)

@Mike Thinking of flashing CM9. Have you picked up any serious bugs or problems yet?

Nothing obvious dude. My wife has been playing on her GS2 all morning and not moaned about something not right once.
Running it on my Note too and for the Note it is still in beta, yet no issues here too.

EDIT: I lie, I had one issue when I flashed yesterday. On both GS2's and my Note. SMS's would not send. I just Googled the SMSC code for Vodacom and all was good again.

I am still waiting for the ICS upgrade to be pushed have checked but it seems like my ROM ain't supported.

If you wait for a local push your GS2 will be old and laying around in a drawer somewhere by the time it comes :)

Just download and flash yourself. It is a seriously simple process and does not void your warranty if you keep it stock and don't root it.
