What is a Vodacom / MTN Rom?

Vodacom 'brand' their phones, at least, most of them that I've seen and all the ones I've personally owned. ie: They set the power on animation to a Vodacom logo, wallpapers are 'bundled' with the device and in some cases, some features are added/removed. And so on.

Which is partly why I get so pissed off with Vodacom for this. When, say, Sony Ericsson release a new firmware, it has to then get handed down to VC, then VC have to do their changes, then give it back to SE so that it can be available to download from the Sony Ericsson firmware updater tool.

So for my previous phone (SE Vivaz) I ended up going to FastGSM and buying a firmware flash credit and flashing my phone to the stock SE firmware. I don't mind paying for a flash service if it's well priced, especially when the 'free' route is highly suspect with lots of dodgy sites ;)

T-Mobile, Orange, AT&T and a lot of other companies do this to phones. I'm not entirely sure what's been done to my S2, I haven't really looked at it that critically yet, been playing too much with apps and been kinda busy :D

That's it. I personally don't mind the Vodacom logo :p

No it's often more than that, on one of my handsets they removed a feature or two. And personally I'd rather not have my carrier doctoring my firmware. And like I pointed out above, waiting 6 months+ for a firmware upgrade that fixes an important feature, because VC haven't 'adjusted' it from the stock firmware is pathetic.

Hi all

Are there any covers / screen protectors that are availible locally? Specifically in Port Elizabeth?

Thanks :)

If I were you I'd just get the SGP Neo Hybrid case, it's on eBay and other sites, unless there's a ZA shop that stocks 'em.. the ones at phone shops are rather pathetic :\

MIUI 1.8.5 will be release today. Finally out of beta stage! I'm refreshing their page every 5 minutes, will let you guys know when it's up!

I dont think the Vodacom/MTN/... ROMs are available on the net, I could be wrong... ;)
So if you want the voda/mtn/... ROM, I think you will need to backup the ROM - no idea on how to do that ... but yeh.

The jig, yeh, get/make it... Very handy

Really? What was removed? :wtf:

Okay brainiacs, I have had my SGS2 for a month now, and I want to remove some of these useless applications (Social Hub, Music Hub, Readers Hub, Game Hub and 1 or 2 others which I will never use) how do I do that?

I have read elsewhere that I need to ROOT my phone, but I want to avoid that as it will void my warranty, yes?

I also want to keep my phone on the stock ROM for another few weeks to give myself more time to choose the right Custom ROM for myself. There are too many to choose from, and I will educate myself further before making a decision.

I think there's an app called Root Uninstaller or Root Remover or something to that effect. Not entirely sure if it works on the S2 though. I'd also be interested to know if it damages the phone in any way be removing system apps.
