Why not use a lancher like go launcher and just hide the apps?

Okay brainiacs, I have had my SGS2 for a month now, and I want to remove some of these useless applications (Social Hub, Music Hub, Readers Hub, Game Hub and 1 or 2 others which I will never use) how do I do that?

I have read elsewhere that I need to ROOT my phone, but I want to avoid that as it will void my warranty, yes?

I also want to keep my phone on the stock ROM for another few weeks to give myself more time to choose the right Custom ROM for myself. There are too many to choose from, and I will educate myself further before making a decision.

Yes, you will void your warranty when you root, but you can unroot and basically "un-void" your warranty.

* To root, download an insecure kernel (preferably the same as your original one) and flash using odin.
* Then flash back the original kernel, this is to remove the yellow triangle on boot.
* To unroot, run s2 root and click on unroot.

yesterday I was fiddling with a new Galaxy S2. Most of you probably know Ive got a iPhone 4.

I sat down with both phones, ready to be blown away by the GS2. I was quite impressed with the screen and the brightness, and damn that screen is huuuuuge! :) it doesnt feel quite as solid as the iPhone 4 obviously coz its not metal but still feels pretty solid imho. nothing to worry about there.

was chatting with the guy as I was fiddling, and we spoke about how different things are "deal breakers" for different people. Some people want a big screen and thats the end of discussion, other want loads of apps, other want battery life, etc etc you get my point.

for me, smooth navigation is a deal breaker. If a phone is gonna stick when scrolling a page, its a instant fail. (IMHO, different for other people)

I install IMDB on both phones. I fiddled on my phone, and then switched over to the S2. One thing I noticed right away during this process is that the S2 downloaded the file considerably slower... kinda weird but I was like w/e. Loaded up the apps on both phones and they both connected to the net to load the home screen. Again the loading of the homescreen was quite a bit slower... I was like :wtf: that cant be right? they should be the same speed??

finally, my point. I begin navigating on both phones in IMDB and the S2 was very jerky when scrolling around. I was disappointed :( I really didnt expect this phone to jerk like it did. It has so much more RAM and better processor? I even reset both phones (twice actually), and tried about 4 different apps. obviously from appstore and android store.

Im not slating this phone, I was just expecting it to rape my iPhone when it came to smoothness.

so what gives?

do me a favour and installed IMDB, search for Tron (the movie) and scroll up and down, and tell me if it lags??
I have that installed. Will try now and let you know. You must also keep in mind that this is the Android version. Maybe if it's lagging, the iPhone version was better developed?

I don't see how you can say the phone is lagging by testing one app on it? You are also assuming that the app is written correctly for both phones and can take full advantage of their hardware? When making an Android app you not only have to consider all the different versions of android, but also all the different hardware configurations. For apple it's either iphone or iphone (yes i know 4 and 3G etc :p but you get my point)

You really should have tried various other apps. Some are good, some are just sh*t.

Okay, there is definitely a bit of lag but this seems to happen with all movies. I sincerely doubt it's the phone. It has to be the app that wasn't properly developed for Android. Every other thing I do, this phone does smoothly, whether it's browsing or whatever else. I don't have this issue when I browse the imdb site with the phone, so it has to be the app.

if you READ my post properly, instead of taking it as a personal attack on your new phone, you would have SEEN what I said.

thank you for your testing, I appreciate it.

have a good weekend and enjoy your new toy :)

Tested those apps on mine, it's lightning fast! Probably because I have lite'ning rom installed now, which is lightning fast... :p

LOL Really? No.. This is the post I was referring to. I see no mention of any of those beside IMDB.

But my point was that there are apps that make proper use of the phones hardware.. Bloomberg not really so much... my old n97 would handle that!
Your post took the approach of, one app is jerky, phone is a fail.. Thats the way it reads. And yes I did read. words like 'rape' are a bit overkill when talking about one app or even 5 if they sh*t apps.
