I love my Samsung (problems and all) and seriously like the idea of the Galaxy S II but for 10k I might end up giving it a skip for a long while.

I contacted Samsung the other day and they said they had no idea of release dates, as the phone was still in testing phase.

Good news, it took them a month to test my rubbish Samsung Omnia, but then VC/MTN will take another month I'm sure. I see the LG is looking at a June release for the Optimus 3D, all we need is the Attrix launch and we might have a 3 way battle royale.

No, they don't release their own version of Android. Google does that. The only new thing that Samsung runs is the TouchWiz interface. Everything else is Android, as per Google.

Not true. Samsung has changed other things in Android.
Hardware video decoding, interface tweaks (when you hit the top/bottom of a lit it 'bounces'), the horrible RFS filesystem that is responsible for lag problems in early firmwares, and more.
Android is open source, the manufacturers change things as they please.

Apparently only end of May. Samsung can suck my <censored>. God knows why they announce a product in the beginning of the year and make everyone wait 4 months. Idiots. This means we have to wait another 3 months on top of that before the phone gets to SA. Screw that. I'll get the Motorola if it becomes available.

My contract is only expiring in August so will get this phone if there are no better alternatives.

I agree with that. August/September I will be more than happy to pick up this phone or the one with the Tegra 2 chipset.
