GRIPES WITH ANDROID KEYBOARD
I prefer the Android keyboard over Swype. But my issue is that I find myself having to key in the numeric key in order to get basic punctuatios such as a Coma, Exclamation, ? mark and Semi colon. And after that there is no auto turning back to the qwerty keys!

The space bar is Big for nothing taking valuable space for one or two of the punctuations mentioned above. Your views?

Use the Swype keyboard. You can type on it like normal, and you can long press keys to get punctuation/numbers. No need to change to numeric keys and back again...

Had no idea u can use it like normal (swipe-less), I will try that.

However, I noticed that the word prediction feature is no where near Android's. E.g I can make a typo and continue typing but the system will predict the correct word by the time I finish tying.

OK, so I don't like Pico TTS, and Samsung TTS has problems... I found one I can actual live with.
It works great, sounds better than both Pico and Samsung, comes in UK english, reads out street names, and best of all is also free (beta).

Download Ivona TTS from the market here. [2.5MB]
Download Amy - UK English from market here. [30.5MB]

@ Codemaster: So if I install this it will automatically change the voice in Google Maps/Navigate?

I enjoy the Gingerbread Keyboard. Its nice and customisable. There is also a free version but for something as important as typing is worth the few rands. I like the fact that I can remove the full stop button next to the space bar...I always used to press it by mistake. So.everything.looked.like.this.

Whenever I get an sms the phone starts telling me I have an sms and the number I received it from. How do I tell her to shut her mouth? My ringtone was magically replaced too and she keeps saying I have a call...lol

If you install and configure correctly, then yes. Google Nav doesn't have it's own voices, it uses the handsets default TTS.
It is worth the download.

. I will install this Ivonia gal (sounds Russian), lol.

Where did you see 250MB?
After you install the app, which is 2,5MB, you need to install the voice, which is just over 30MB.
Definitely isn't 250MB.
Yo yo yo, this requires a download of 250MB of files after initial installation. Will have to do this at work over wifi on weekend.

. Hmm, maybe it's bcoz I did not install Amy? I only installed Ivonia and opened the app which asks to install a Voice data of 250mb.

Can someone please explain whats the difference between the kernel and the firmware??

Also, if my PDA version number is i9100XWKE7, can I upgrade to i9100XXKG5?

I want to use the official firmware found here: xda-developer forum

And is it possible to root without using frankenstein firmware?
