However, the best practise for Li-ion is to use it till there is almost no power (just before it would switch off by itself) and charge full and then unplug. That is the proper way.

It isn't. That is the single worst treatment you can give a lithium-ion battery.

Lies. Lipo cells don't suffer from memory effect, and they should never be fully discharged or overcharged.

Do you want to charge your phone's battery, or prolong its usable life? The page I linked to is on the same site as the link of yours above, by the way. ;)

The way I described was not wrong. You will have good battery life for phone usage and also usable life. (Yup same site) What happens when you buy a phone is the ninkumpoops who sells it tell the consumer that you must discharge completely and charge for 16 hrs. With nickle cadmium (and perhaps the nickle metal hydrade) batteries it was true, but not modern li-ion. I still dont know why you disagree with me. The only part of my statement where you could possibly disagree with me is to start charging just before the battery dies. You might argue that one should start charging at +- 10% ... fair enough

The site you and I referred to is brilliant.

Well, all things being equal the general impression I get from various sources is that it's best practice to charge the phone whenever practical. The less charge expended before recharging, the less life you've effectively taken from the battery. So, when I'm at my desk for a bit I'll pop in the USB cable. When I'm driving somewhere I'll pop in the car charger if... I remember. My phone's battery very rarely drops below 30% - only when I'm away from a power outlet for whatever reason.

As for the clowns in the stores - I doubt anyone bothered to tell them that battery construction has changed completely from 5 or 8 years ago. If you're working in a cellphone shop, you're also rather unlikely to show any interest in the products you're selling. :o Of course there are exceptions, but they're few and far between...

I have everything backed up with TB, but LPQ does not accept all the restores! I have three user purchased userapps that messing things up.
Had the same problem, you just have to download those again from the market, you can still restore the app data though if its important, just select data only and restore the app (once you have redownloaded it)

Is that good or bad for you (being a first)? If a full charge stops at 22:00 and I unplug, I would be on 98% in the morning at say 06:00. XWLA4 or XWKJ3

Just remember that Li-Ion batteries do not like being discharged completely. And they don't like being left in the charger after being charged fully (max 15 mins aftert fully charged). It shortens the life of the battery if you don't treat it well.

That is good for me as I keep wi-fi and 3g on during the night. I also surf the net if I wake up during the night.

I did the full discharge/charge because I flashed the new rom.

Does anyone know what the difference is between ICS XXLPQ and DXLP7?

The nice thing about the Galaxy S2 is that you can simply replace the battery with a new one when the current one is buggered.

Think is more or less R125 that you'll have to fork out, or get the official extended battery (with cover) from kalahari.com for R340.

I use a HTC charger, Nokia charger, basically anything I can find, when I want to charge my phone & couldn't care less if it might shorten my battery's life span. Who cares?

Just take the old battery out and pop in a new one. Sorted. ;)

Now please stop worrying about something that is not worth worrying about - there are bigger problems in the world.

Agreed, your Battery will anyway not usually be a problem, phones get replaced so often anyway, ICS upgrade is great, anyone holding out should do it, many users using custom rooms are spoilt with ICS 4 options and complain about it, if like me you have been only using stock roms, you will love it!

I agree, pure ICS is nice but running a rom that's not buggy is nicer. I'm currently running stock rooted LPQ and will only go back to one of the ICS themed roms if they are on par with stock ICS.

Quick question guys.

I have tweaked my SGS2 very nicely so far.
Installed CheckRom RevoHD V6 with Siyah kernel.
Undervolted my CPU (still rock stable)
Tweaked my CPU governors
and a lot more tweaks.

Thing is, I am running the XWKL1 modem which comes with the latest CheckRom, apparently thought the XXKI4 modem is better (faster wifi, 3g, better battery, faster GPS lock).

I am thinking of trying it out but I dont wanna tinker to much with my current config of my phone, it runs like a boss with great battery life on stock 1650mah battery.

So just wanna know what modem do you use? and what can you recommend?

same setup as you Tariq, and my call quality has NEVER been better.

Cant comment on 3G or Wifi other than it runs fine (never did a speed test).

GPS is slow, but I'm so happy with my call quality that I dont care

EDIT:

Just flash it and see, if you dont like it flash it back?

EDIT 2:

This Rom + Kernel + ICS theme is ROCK SOLID STABLE... ICS can suck it until it actually works like it should.

LP7 is MUCH smoother, and has more fixes. LPQ felt like a Beta ROM while LP7 is truely the ICS we've all been waiting for, i had LPQ for a day, it was okay then got LP7, id highly recommend getting LP7 to everyone, forget LPQ, its buggy.
