What is the latest official MTN stock ROM? From what I have read, a stock firmware flash may fix it (baseband is missing too).

Dude

The /efs location contains unique device specific stuff like IMEI number. Flashing anything other than a backup of YOUR own device, will never be able to restore that. You need to find a way to make that restore work.
Did you manually copy a backup or did you use a backup tool?

I have a manual copy of /efs, as well as 2 backups courtesy of either CWM or Titanium - I forget which. Regardless, I have 3 copies (tar.gz), and none are working. I have even extracted the latest, and tried to overwrite it manually (Root Browser). No joy. It comes back successfully , but nothing is there.

@mercurial That 4.1 alpha I was running insisted I had a corrupt SD card. I had changed it very recently, so I though it was legit, and allowed it to format. Big mistake. Somehow the efs folder was cleared too. In the meantime I have cleared EVERYTHING out - losing TB and nandroid backups in the process. Having said that, a nandroid restore didn't help either.

I am currently downloading an official ROM to start afressh with. Hopefully that gives me some respite. Some threads say to do so, anyway, and I'm getting desperate.

EDIT: Is it worth it to consider a AOSP/AOKP (CM9) based Rom over Stock Modified ROMs? I been reading a little about ppl bricking their phones.

I'd highly recommend CM9 - been running it on my S2 for a couple of months now - and have had 0 issues.
 
No matter which version I install, Resurrection Remix always bugs out if I try to send SMS's, and I cannot get my google-fu to find a fix. Anyone here have a solution for me? Pretty please?

What happens is, as soon as I send an SMS, the phone just looses signal, and it only comes back when I delete the message I'm trying to send.

EDIT: Found the fix, had to enter a new SMSC number

Can somebody run the following command on their phone (adb shell or terminal), and PM me for my address? I need a functioning efs folder before I can overwrite it with my own... I promise I will do nothing else with the data...

I need the resulting file as a base - once I've put it on my phone I can then successfully overwrite /efs with my own backup. Confirmed this - EFS Pro cannot locate mount point...

(I won't blame anyone for not responding)

I have the same issue with CM9 RC1.

A workaround that works for me:
Type *#*#4636#*#* from your dialler.
Select "Phone Information"
Scroll down to "SMSC"
Select "Refresh"
It should now show 2 0's in the SMSC field.

Try sending a sms again.

Unfortunately I have to do this every time I switch the phone on.

Well i think i will wait for CM9 to reach gold.

I've installed WanamLite 12.2 (the current release) everything running great. Always love a clean install :)

BUT, this fix didn't work for me, so I played around a little and found a number that worked for me. I can confirm I sent an SMS and recieved one, rebooted the phone and repeated and all was successful! Yay!

So here is the SMSC number I used:

0791722819911100

Repeat smacksakes steps but use the above number instead. (You may need to restart phone to power cycle the radio properly)

I hope this works for you! Im over the moon I can stick with CM9 and/or AOKP now

CM9 RC1 sms bug, is it only on RC1 or also on latest nightly?
And do you have to do the smsc fix every reboot or just once?
