Samsung Galaxy S3

I thought if I have a crack at it early in the morning I might get the update. Seems like I was wrong

I'm also running the leaked 4.1.2 - no problems yet other than the 3 home screens only.

Also, there's a feature in 4.1.2 called the Daydream Screensaver. I haven't seen this on the S3's leaked 4.1.2. Has anyone found it or has Samsung disabled the feature?

You haven't had the problem where GPS fix drops after a bit while using Navigation and driving? It's a commonly reported issue with 4.1.2 which the majority seem to experience... doesn't appear to be a clear fix for it yet, and seems to be caused by the actual Google Navigation app itself.

I can't be sure this will work, since I flashed Omega to get 4.1.2 and it already had more than 3 home screens... the fix to delete home screens without TouchWiz force closing was to disable developer options in settings then reboot... maybe this will resolve adding more than 3 pages too?
 
I can confirm this. Tested it last night and the GPS loses signal every time.

Will try the fix today.

For those already running some version of the leaked test ROM, Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2, have you had the same GPS issues a lot of others are reporting? Symptoms are that you get a position lock at first, but after extended use while driving (time ranging from a few minutes to an hour), your GPS lock drops and it continues searching without success, until you do something like switch off/on GPS (or maybe even reboot phone).

I'm currently on Omega 33.1 (haven't bothered with 33.2 yet till I get a more solid solution for this issue), and have had this GPS issue the last two days driving to/from work (40+ km each direction).

Possible solutions mentioned in the XDA Omega ROM thread are to flash the siyah kernel (instead of stock that comes with the ROM), or replace a couple of files from Android 4.1.1 (mentioned here. There has not yet been wide acceptance of either method in the Omega thread. I've not had a chance to try either yet - has anybody had success or come across a confirmed fix?

It's not a Google Navigation problem. I tried Waze last night and had the same problem.

That fix I linked apparently does not work consistently if it all, but I came across another fix on XDA that does appear to have worked - disable "Use wireless networks" in Settings > Location Services, and check only "Use GPS satellites" while using nav software. I drove 40+ km this morning, 50mins, and didn't lose signal.

It appears there's a bug introduced into aGPS in this test version 4.1.2. So that's a temporary fix, but hopefully another test leak or official release will resolve this soon.
 
Google now is really cool...old news for those that have been using JB for a while already...but really is awesome..
 
My S3 is now up and running (first android device) and have a couple issues which maybe you guys can answer.

The sound profile seems to be sound/mute/vibrate. What I want is for the phone at night to not vibrate, give me blue light flashes in my bedroom from notifications and is silent except if a call is made. Is it possible to set up a profile like that which I can then switch to when I go to sleep?

Also, as mentioned in another thread, when testing skype video call to my dad yesterday I would show up on his phone but on my phone I heard his voice but the video was of myself. Can't work out what is going on. Cellular data is turned off and both phones were running off the wifi...not sure if maybe it has something to do with that.

The simplest app for profiles I could find that does exactly what I need is Sound Profile. Works very similarly to the default profiles you find on Nokias and BlackBerrys

1. Short of setting up profiles using Tasker, a more simple solution is the Blocking Mode that has been introduced with JB 4.1.1. There are a few settings that allow you to control what kinds of notifications to enable/disable, the time you want it active, and what contacts can be allowed to override and get through to you.

2. Not sure about Skype on S3 as I've actually not tried it yet, but on my Galaxy Tab 10.1, whenever I place a video call, I need to click this video icon to specifically enable video from my side for the person on the other end to see me. (There may be a setting to automatically do this everytime, but I've not yet looked into this). Maybe this will work for you? EDIT: sorry, reread your post, and maybe your Dad is the one who needs to perform this step on his end.

It is fine to flash over the legit Egypt ROM but if you do find bugs then you have to do a factory reset.
Your phone will "stay stock" as you are flashing an official ROM, your binary/flash counter wont increase.

If you have a vodacom branded s3 change your CSC which should be XFV to XFA after you flash this. You can remove the ugly vodacom boot logo but it will factory reset your phone if you change your CSC which is like a full format.

hi i have downloaded this file but how to i install it on my stock s3?
 
Don't want to use ODIN, so I have given up on the update.

KIES first attempt stopped at 45%
Second attempt 82%
Third attempt 4%
Fourth attempt 3%

F U KIES! :mad:
 
ok is there an easier way to do this? tried over the air and it stopped at 48% and tried kia kies and it doesn't move after 3%.

Can I download the firmware and then install via something else? Don't want to lose any data and my phone is not rooted or anything like that.

Frustrating process...

Thanks, will try and sort out 4.1.1 and try the blocker.

And will try to skype with my dad nearby so I can check his settings as well. Could be he was doing something wrong.
 
Just installed the update through kiss, one try, but it took almost an hour to finish though.

+1 someone please answer. OTA and KIES POS doesn't work.
