Seems this conversation is happening in two threads so here goes :)

Do you guys reckon there will be any advantage to flashing this new SA one if you are already using the UK one. The UK one is I9300XXDLJ4 while this one is I9300XXDLJ1.
 
Just got an S3, my first android phone. Had to switch to a micro sim and am now wondering if I can wipe my old blackberry once the sim switch has gone through, or whether I should wipe it now and then hope I don't get any important calls until the new sim is ready to rock and roll.

Any advice?

Okay so I will be able to get into the blackberry to wipe it after the sim has deactivated? Also, my BIS won't be associated with the phone anymore right?

yes, you don't need a sim in the phone to wipe it

you can test that now by removing the sim and booting up the phone

For those already running some version of the leaked test ROM, Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2, have you had the same GPS issues a lot of others are reporting? Symptoms are that you get a position lock at first, but after extended use while driving (time ranging from a few minutes to an hour), your GPS lock drops and it continues searching without success, until you do something like switch off/on GPS (or maybe even reboot phone).

I'm currently on Omega 33.1 (haven't bothered with 33.2 yet till I get a more solid solution for this issue), and have had this GPS issue the last two days driving to/from work (40+ km each direction).

Possible solutions mentioned in the XDA Omega ROM thread are to flash the siyah kernel (instead of stock that comes with the ROM), or replace a couple of files from Android 4.1.1 (mentioned here. There has not yet been wide acceptance of either method in the Omega thread. I've not had a chance to try either yet - has anybody had success or come across a confirmed fix?

I'm in siyah. Simple solution would be to flash siyah
 
Ok, and can you confirm that you can maintain a GPS fix while using Google Navigation while driving, say at least 20 minutes?

On the way home today, GPS went off after 5 minutes. I tried toggling GPS off then on... that worked this morning, but no such luck this evening, couldn't reestablish a GPS fix.
 
Anyone else trying to update via Keis? Mine is dragging balls and has done 1% in about 20 minutes :(
 
What is the benefit of flashing Siyah Kernal? I cant seem to find much information on the benefits of this kernal compared to stock.

Can I flash this official SA ROM over the EGYPT ROM I used to replace my stock ICS using ODIN and it will be stock again for warranty purposes etc?

It is fine to flash over the legit Egypt ROM but if you do find bugs then you have to do a factory reset.
Your phone will "stay stock" as you are flashing an official ROM, your binary/flash counter wont increase.

Heres the new jellybean 4.1.1 for South Africa (XFA).

If you have a vodacom branded s3 change your CSC which should be XFV to XFA after you flash this. You can remove the ugly vodacom boot logo but it will factory reset your phone if you change your CSC which is like a full format.

flashed the 4.1.2 leak. been using it for about 2 days and have found no problems:o
