Samsung Galaxy S3

I'm not a fan of any cases for these phones - my S2 didn't have a case and I doubt I'll get one for the S3.

As long as you are careful with the phone all will be well.

When I open a folder in the stock launcher I get voice feedback saying folder open/closed. Also when I go to home screen overviews.

How do I return it off? It's not in accessibility.

Switch to Go Launcher Ex - a much more pleasing experience than TouchWiz

I used a sim cutter on my step-dad's iPhone 4s and it worked fine. Did the same with my sim card and it seemed to work fine until I left the house and didn't have wifi. I don't even get the mobile network icon that I used to get with my previous Android phone. I examined my cut sim card and it looks like the one side was cut along the gold border, not after it like with my step-dad's iPhone. Could that somehow cause internet connectivity issues? My S3 is from Cellucity, so it has Vodacom wallpapers and stuff - but the staff insisted that the phone was not network locked.

The MTN helpline assistant said that the S3 can't use the automatic settings that are received via SMS. So I followed the manual instructions but my phone wouldn't store the entry once I hit save.

MTN implied over the phone that they will exchange my sim for a micro sim on the spot. Does it actually take a week?!

Phones haven't been network locked in a decade, so you're safe on that count. Sounds like a buggered SIM. That or your APN settings are stuffed. My S3 is a VC phone that's has had an MTN SIM since day one without a problem or change to anything.

Flashed CM9 (nightly) last night.

Only thing outstanding is FM radio (apparently third party apps work though).

Usual CM stuff

* Custom auto-brightness levels
* Custom notification settings short-cuts (power widget)

ALSO
* Notification light customisation (no need for light flow any more)

Have they sorted out the FC on flash? I burnt myself terribly when I first loaded a ROM with broken features.

My S3 can't connect to 3G (or 2G). I can send and receive smses and phone calls just fine, and I have mobile data enabled with the MTN MMS and GPRS settings saved. MTN's helpline gave me the manual settings, but after I push 'save' it returns to the previous screen without saving the settings. They said this is because I'm using a cut sim card and not a proper micro sim. Has anyone had an issue like this? I'm at my beach house and can only visit MTN on Monday - this is very inconvenient and doesn't make sense. My step-dad's iPhone 4s uses a cut sim card and has no problems.

I cut my sim for my S3 and it was fine for phonecalls and sms but nothing else worked. I manually set 3G settings etc and still didnt work. Did a sim swop and it worked instantly. I think it depends on how old your sim card was.

How's the camera?

I've been keeping an eye on the xda thread and have seen a lot of people complaining about the Camera not working properly.

I'm going to give it a few more weeks before I take the plunge and flash CM9

Camera is buggy. FC after a few shots. I was gonna wait for a stable release but Touchwiz was very annoying.

Flash seems to work. Like I said I had a FC, but I can't seem to recreate it. Had to reboot after the last one to get the camera up again.

I'll be sticking to Stock + Go Launcher Ex for a while then.

I tend to use my phone camera quite a bit - and don't want it crashing on me all the time.

Hasn't since. I see there's an s3 add-on flash, will see if I can pick the stuff I want to keep. Like the video gallery and maybe camera

Are you / were you using the lite or paid version lightflow?

I've had very few issues with it - a couple of times (with the lite version) the LED refused to turn off unless I disabled and then re-enabled that specific notification. But that is about it.

Got the phone on Wednesday, it's not very grippy, so I'd like a cover if only to make it less slippery!

Does anyone know where to get covers that have a backup battery built into it, where it charges along with the phone battery but then it depletes before the phone battery? <edit>Something like a boost case that's available for the iPhone</edit>

P.S. How much are micro-sim card card cutters and are they available in the Southern Suburbs (Cape Town) or perhaps CBD?

I bought a micro sim card cutter from bid or buy - cost +-R110 including delivery.

It's actually sitting at the post office at the moment - I just need to get round to collecting it.
