Samsung Galaxy S3

So you don't get a micro-SIM cutter with the phone? That sucks, the One X comes with one in the box. I'm definitely not paying Vodacom's rip-off sim-swap charge.

Got the phone on Wednesday, it's not very grippy, so I'd like a cover if only to make it less slippery!

Does anyone know where to get covers that have a backup battery built into it, where it charges along with the phone battery but then it depletes before the phone battery? <edit>Something like a boost case that's available for the iPhone</edit>

P.S. How much are micro-sim card card cutters and are they available in the Southern Suburbs (Cape Town) or perhaps CBD?

You can cut it yourself. There is link on this thread somewhere - very easy to do.

Got my S3 TODAY!!!

Coming from a HTC Desire it feels like I have gone from a pentium 4 to a i7 pc :p
Going to take some getting used to but this screen is amazing, makes typing awesome.
Phone feels so light I'm worried will going to drop it so will head to china mall on Sunday to look for a cover.

How do you change the lock screen shortcuts?

Cellucity quoted me R65. Is that the fee you're referring to?

If I mess it up, worst case scenario I just pay the R65 sim swap fee to get a new sim?

This makes no sense, it doesn't even show up in my Play Store app... But you can still download it just fine through the desktop browser (or use the phone's browser and just send to device). Strange but it works.

I cut my sim for my S3 and it was fine for phonecalls and sms but nothing else worked. I manually set 3G settings etc and still didnt work. Did a sim swop and it worked instantly. I think it depends on how old your sim card was.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, whatever the issue is it seems to be the sim card. I've had my current sim card since the end of 2008. If age isn't the issue then maybe it just had a bad cut in a sim cutter. I read on a random forum Google provided that some people were solving their identical Android issues by adjusting the position of the sim card slightly until 3G worked - but the S3's sim mechanism doesn't allow any adjustment.

did you come right with a new sim

apn settings not saving

im using a old sim card that is cut, does it make a difference if you get a micro sim card, as my fone noot saving apn settings was told to get a new sim.

Are you / were you using the lite or paid version lightflow?

I've had very few issues with it - a couple of times (with the lite version) the LED refused to turn off unless I disabled and then re-enabled that specific notification. But that is about it.

Paid. But I'm on cm9 now, led customization is built in.

I thought it's like R300?
No, R63. I got it done at Cellucity today. Wasn't worth my time mucking about with scissors and a ruler :p

One irritating thing is Vodacom migrated me today, giving me R400 airtime for my Top Up 400s and 8.33mb of data. That makes no sense, they should have pro-rated the R400 airtime like they did the 250mb of data. Will wait to see what the bill is for my first month and one day on this new contract. I guess R400 x 2 for the Top Up airtime.

Flashed CM9 (nightly) last night.

Only thing outstanding is FM radio (apparently third party apps work though).

Usual CM stuff

* Custom auto-brightness levels
* Custom notification settings short-cuts (power widget)

ALSO
* Notification light customisation (no need for light flow any more)

Haven't done any extensive camera testing (don't use it much anyway), but for my normal day to day use CM9 20120629 Nightly + Apex seems super stable and lightning quick at the moment.

When the camera issue is fixed I'll flash CM9 in a heartbeat.
