Hi all. I am wondering if anyone can help me with regards to my Samsung Galaxy S3.

I just bought a second hand S3. It has Android version 4.1.2. When i tried searching for updates, it said it was modified. I then did some research, and finally used Triangle Away and got it back to official status. When i hold the Down volume, Home and Power button, then push up volume, it shows that its now official and no longer custom. Now it searches for updates, but does not actually pick up any updates. I downloaded the Phone Info App for Playstore.
There it shows this info...

Original CSC Code: XFV
Firmware's CSC Code: XFV
Active CSC Code: XFV
CSC Country South Africa

But the Firmware info shows the
Bootloader version: I9300XXEMA2
Baseband Version: I9300XXELLA
PDA Version: I9300XXEMA2
CSC Version is I9300OJVEMA1 and OJV is Bahrain.

Also the Product Code says: Not Active.

I am confused as to why it is not picking up any later updates.

Not sure if anyone can help. I have factory reset it, Unrooted it blah blah blah. No luck.

Thanks

Go to Sammobile and choose the Vodacom one then flash it via Odin. That will put you one the newest South African version.

My plan was for the Xperia Z3 Compact, but looking at it, it's not really compact at all, more or less the same size as the S3. I miss my Note 3 from my old job so I'll be getting a Note 4. That stylus really grows on you and they never should have stopped putting them in phones.

True that, i was seriously leaning towards the Nexus 6 but the size killed it for me, how did you get used to it??
Im all for the extra space so do "stuff" but i mean, for one handed use, its a nightmare.:wtf:

The Nexus 6 is a dumb idea. It's a huge screen, but it doesn't have the stuff that makes the huge screen good on the Note: the stylus and the multi-window multitasking. Without those a big display is quite pointless. It's even worse on tablets which is why I don't understand how anyone can like an ipad.

I have big hands, the Note 3 was the perfect size for me. Holding it and talking on it just felt natural, it's hard to explain. The notification bar was just at the limit of my one handed reach so it worked out nicely. And it was the best typing experience ever on a smartphone, including ones with physical keyboards.

When I had to switch back to my old S3 it felt like a toy :D

haha makes sense though, i have always held google in high regard, but i have no idea why they made the nexus so big, i really hope it wasnt just to put up something against Apple/Samsung. :erm:

How stable is this? I went back to this Samsung based one (*link) coming from Cyanogenmod 10.2. Not quite as fast as cyanogenmod but it does seem sable.

Hey park.
I'm on the latest (24 Dec) build of cm 12 beta from the developer justarchi and it's awesome. Everything is stable and works. Battery life on stock kernel seems to be better than what I was getting on aosp kitkat. I'll try out custom kernels later. But yeah worth checking out for sure. Phone feels blazingly fast.

That's a good deal, granted the guy who sold the motherboard to you probably got it out of an S3 with cracked screen that was bought for a few hundred bucks.

Just noticed there's a seller on Bidorbuy that sells what must be insurance salvage and he has loads of complete S3s with cracked screens for under R1k.

But then screen replacements bring the price up to what a used, in good condition, S3 will cost.... So unless you know where to do it for less than 1k or you don't mind a cracked screen, I don't think that would be worth it

Thanks I think ill wait a bit though, I hate flashing my phone all the time. I must say that stock based does have some things that I was missed on CM e.g. power saving mode and a better camera.

Mentioned it because another guy said he got just a motherboard for R900, there you get the whole phone for spares albeit bust screen

I've got an option to get one as a music phone... Will be using PlayerPro. Should I go for it?

It's rooted so I'll want a lollipop based rom. Any suggestions there?
