It's not yet ready for anything other than playing with it for a few minutes - too many unpredictable results, as in call audio stops working, minimal set of working settings, and app compatibility. I found it to be no smoother than CM9 RC2, and a whole lot less functional.

I find the latest release of CM10 to be very stable, smooth and the important things work. All the settings work for me. Camera, Google Now, audio, music, gallery and all my apps also works without any issues.

Things that don't work are FM radio (as mentioned by dev), video recorder and swapping between cameras crashes the camera app and you have to restart the phone.

That's basically it, if something else comes up I'll post it up.

For those thinking of trying CM10, this is what I did:

I flashed preview 2 straight over the stock Rom, flashed Google apps and wipe/factory reset. I restored all my apps with Titanium Backup and setup all my accounts.

When preview 5 were released I flashed it straight over preview 2 and flashed Google apps again. No wipe/factory reset, everything works like a charm.
 
That illustrates what I mean with "unpredictable results". I flashed over CM9 as per the preview thread on XDA, and did not have a good experience. The CM10 discussion thread over at XDA paints a similar picture of hit and miss experiences.
 
It seems like the OTA update servers are VERY busy ... they probably pushing the update out slowly.

Mine has taken 2 hours on wifi (4MB) to download 50 MB of the update ... probably another 50 minutes to go!

Did you flash the correct GApps?

Worked for me. Preview 3. You have to do a full wipe. Back on rc2 for now though.
 
Just got the OTA today. download was so slow :wtf:

U dont have to unroot. If you're running stock and u're rooted u can just install the OTA update. However you'll lose root so u just havta root again which takes less then 30 seconds if u use CF-root method with Odin:D

While Jailbreaking and Rooting are similar, the reasons for Rooting a Android phone is a bit different than Jailbreaking an Iphone, On a Android Phone you can already download unsigned apps, without rooting, you predominantly use rooting to gain access to other parts of the phone that is normally blocked off, so you can use things like Titanium backup,Add blockers,market region spoofers and Firewalls for instance all need root access to do there work and there are tuns of other apps that do very useful things that Android or your Handset maker might not like.

Rooting allso allows you to run custom firmware on the phone, most of these are highly modified versions of currently available firmwares that offer everything from, speed increases, better battery life, custom apps, to full fledged desktop OS like firmwares (Ubunto) , and because most of these are user edited and maintained you will find that you sometimes get early access to newer Android OSes like Jellybean but at the moment its still a bit buggy and not for a android user.

You dont however need to have a Rooted phone to run Jelly bean, but you have need to wait for Samsung to port it for you and add there own bloat to it...

Is everything working in CM9 RC2?
 
While I was a massive Jailbreaking fan and could never live with a un-jailbroken iPhone, I must say I am more than happy so far with the S3 unrooted. Although the ability to block adds is very appealing.

Yes. There is a sound issue with calls. I don't seem to have it, but i have flashed the LFB modem. Some users who have the LFB modem and still have no sound on calls have reported that turning lock screen sounds off and then on and then reboot fixes it.

The difference between this and preview 2 is astonishing! Some things are still missing (settings, mostly), but I have changed my skeptical mind - this is good enough for daily use.
