Samsung Galaxy S8

Nice, so where is your left index finger in that picture?

My V20 has a nice little feature that lives in my .... what do you call this area at the bottom that holds the home and back button? whatever... I added a button in there that brings down the shade, so no need to reach for it...! (bottom right of image below)

there's also a feature on the V20 when a slide either left or right across my "home bar" (yeh, that's what I'm calling it now) and it makes the screen smaller to that side, so you can easily reach for things...

Index sits to the left right of the phone at the back next to the camera.

Yep, I've seen that, that's a nice feature for these large phones, if i didn't like Touchwiz launcher I would have got one of the launchers that allows me to just swipe in the middle to get the notification down. But thanks to the Edge Panels I do have the Notification Edge :D

Oh yes, what you have described sounds similar to Samsung One-Handed Mode, I can either setup a Gesture to do it or hit the Home button 3 times

So..... where the fingerprint reader will be?

Nice, but the 3rd party launchers only work when you are on your home screen, not from another app unfortunately :(

Yes, that's the it, sam-theng ;)

What I'm saying is that my Index Finger is on the right when looking at the phone from the front, so it's on the opposite side of the S8s Fingerprint Scanner, lol, I was actually trying to to figure out how i describe how it's sitting.

For me the S8 would require adjustment, it's no deal breaker but it won't be as smooth for me in the beginning same as when using these large phones at 1st was not very comfortable.

There is talk though that we may see a Fingerprint Scanner integrated in the Display, the S8 was meant to have it but the tech was not ready in time for its release. Hopefully Note 8 brings it.

so your finger is then what... 1cm from where it should be for the fingerprint reader? don't pull a muscle now reaching for it ;)

yeh, integrated into the display.... fark, that'll be some cool schit right there.

erm, no, that's not how android pay works, here's a google official vid

Christ almighty Fanus, I actually use AndroidPay... every day... and you tell me that's not how it works?

So screen off, tap, screen comes on and then you fingerprint?

Screen off, thumb on home button, tap and pay....

the thumb falls naturally on the home button as you take the phone out of your pocket and some shops have the readers next to the till so it's a stretch over the counter, having to hold the phone to use a finger on a print reader where the camera lens is is much more awkward imo, I've tried to simulate it in a petrol station where the reader is quite high and recessed and it's not as easy as thumb on button position. YMMV as you don't have a phone that works that way...

ok, technically, this is how things work... your phone HAS to be unlocked, for the app (be it android pay, fnb, or whatever) to provide the nfc reader the token for payment. Just because you keep your finger on the button while you put the phone near the reader, is just coincidence... on your next purchase, keep your finger off the button, and tap the phone... see what happens. My bet? nada. The FNB app/phone vibrates if the phone is still locked and the transaction is not authorised until the phone is unlocked.

the fingerprint itself has nothing to do with the payment itself.

tbh not mine. because my fingerprint reader sits on the back, my hand naturally goes to the back of the phone.

Nice video review of the phone:

Samsung Sandton City has demo units. Super impressive looking device - that screen is crazy good and that fingerprint scanner is in a crazy bad location. Also, the home buttons haptic feedback pales in comparison to the iPhone 7, they're planets apart.

You can adjust the intensity of the haptic feedback in the settings you know. By default it sits at around 50%.

Got a call from my MTN guy at the La Lucia Mall in Durban, confirming that they will have my phone on the 5th of May. I'll be there at 9am! Anybody else getting one on launch day?

I've been considering going to the Pavilion in Westville to play with the demo units at the Vodacom shop but I think I'd rather be an "S8 virgin" on launch day :D

This phone looks really really nice and impressive, which makes me quite excited for the Note 8... but that price though, eina.

Not sure... Cause black would be first option. Justbheard a guy complain his all black s7 edge scratched badly

well, that's glass, and if you do not get a cover... bingo!!

the iphone 7 doesn't have glass at the back, but the 1 type of black (not the matt) was this shiny thing... scratches like beech
