Samsung Galaxy S8

TL;DR: I love the phone and everything is working well.

So wireless charging last night worked flawlessly, took almost exactly 3 hours from 10% to 100% without fast charge on.

Downloaded and played some games this morning and I am amazed at the level of performance achieved by this smartphone! Incredible visuals and so fast. The S8+ also doesn't run all that warm, battery peaked at 35 degrees while charging and 35 again while gaming for about an hour, according to GSAM. And after playing for an hour and listen to google play music for an hour over bluetooth, I'm still at 85% battery.

I'm still getting used to the fingerprint sensor. Takes a while to unlock and often I end up using my backup swipe code because it's easier. Hopefully finding the sensor will be easier when my UAG cover arrives on Monday. Face unlock sometimes works so well and other times just never unlocks for me. Maybe my hair looks different today?

Other than that, I'm still loving the phone. All the screen space makes playing games and watching youtube etc a pleasure. It's responsive and I feel I've been able to set up everything to the way I prefer. It might not be a pure android experience but I certainly don't find touchwiz a daily irritation.

Getting it on Telkom's FreeMe 1GB at R699 basically means I'm paying R599 each month for the S8+. Doing a present value calculation puts that at R13380, which is much cheaper than any S8+ available cash today (R17500 on Takealot, so R4200 cheaper!). My insurance comes to R280 per month (I have had to claim a few times last year which has hurt me...) but I know I'm covered for everything that could happen to the phone.

Overall, definitely happy with my decision!

Glad you're enjoying the phone. You should try the iris unlock. It's more secure than face unlock and works in the dark (screen brightness provides enough light) I've set mine to scan immediately when the screen is turned​ on. Works near instantly 8 out of 10 times.
 
Are there some cool games to play on the s8. I was on a flight to NYC last year and I saw a guy play this helicopter game on the flight. Looked like lots of fun! Any ideas?
 
Anyone else seem to have lost the ability to set a parallax effect in TouchWiz home?
 
I don't know why they had to change the charging jack of the S8. The wireless charger takes a normal jack but the S8 takes it's own size.

Juggling between the included adapter and cable is getting frustrating..... Quick charge only works with certain cables so the S8 charging cable and the wireless charger cable both work with quick charge so I need to swap cables sometimes or carry my s8 charging cable with me.

The wireless charger is the old charger that vodacom gave us, hence the issue.

The USB-C cable that came with the phone travels with me in my laptop bag... but the wireless charger sits as a fixture next to my bed for nightly charges.

I also have an extra USB-C cable from my V20 floating around :whistle:

It's because they gave us the old S7 wireless charger, the one that launched with the S8 is also Type C.
 
I got an Extra USB C adapter with my battery pack and I ordered an extra one from Takealot. It is a non issue for me.
 
Got my S8 today. Coming from an S3 this is mindblowing. Not as much customization as I'm used to with custom ROMs but a very nice package.

I ported my CellC number to the new MTN sim but it seems they never Rica'd it. I made the mistake of assuming they would handle​ such things. Or at least tell me when I'm collecting the new phone and sim card that I should Rica as well. Now my old sim is dead and the new one is connected but Rica barred when I try to use it.

Do I just need to take ID and proof of residence to MTN tomorrow? Or do they physically need the sim card or phone as well?

Yup, was ordered online, they contacted me in connection with the pre-order, from the online details.

I did query it, and they said the kit is R20 additional.

Just don't know if R20 is worth the effort to report them to ASA, but guess that's what they rely on to get away with it.

Don't just leave it, go to the store, email them, call them, Twitter, Facebook etc.

Mistakes happen, when I got the S6 two years ago I was supposed to get 1GB free for the first 12 months but by the second month the bundle disappeared, contacted them and they apologised, removed all OOB data usage and extended the free 1GB to 24 months to say sorry.

Thats right, i got the new fast charge wireless charger, with the new connection. And works awesome, takes just over an hour (from 30%) to fully charge.

They are exactly the same in operation, I just think the new one looks nicer.
