Does any of your S8 phones heat up significantly when using Google maps or high accuracy GPS for prolonged time.

Nope. Used mines for 6 hours straight with no issue...
What is the ambient temperature where you used it?
Was it lying in sunlight/dashboard?

Warm day.. but nothing hectic. It was in centre console.

Screen was rather hot. So I removed the cover and the back was very hot. Had to put it on front of aircon to cool it down. Had tons of other apps open in background tho.

Did you use yours on charge?
 
Yup. Connected to the car charger. No other apps running besides Google Maps
 
Found a few articles/ post online regarding heating up. Not a common issue, but not isolated case either. Will monitor it and seen if it reoccurs.

Changed my GPS to phone only as an interim measure.
 
Update available with November security patch.

Let me know what the quality of your VoWiFi calls through Vodacom are like.

On CellC WiFi calling has been able since about 2015, but even now there are days where WiFi calling is best described as problematic.
Issues that we quite commonly struggle with, are dropped calls after 4 seconds, and of course being billed for WiFi calls when the service is supposed to be free, according to the advertising blurb from CellC.
If we have to make an important business call, we tend to switch off WiFi on the phone, and make the call through the standard network.

Made my first one today and it sucked. But that might be because I was downloading torrents on the same network :whistle:

This is a sms Vodacom sent me re
"wifi calling" ( Friday 22 Dec2017)
As far as i can remember wifi calling, had originally been enabled, on my S8+, way back, around Jun July 2017.
So if i believe this sms, Vodacom
has been testing wifi calling, for about 6 months..?
Overall, my wifi calling on my Note 8, is working fine.

Ok so probably certain devices only are part of testing phase. But yes, I remember it been tested since ages ago.

No, anybody ....(according to what i experience /understand)
If your device is compatible, / plus your firmware. You have a 64 ( or higher) sim card.Your reception area/tower LTE /volte etc capable. Also if, Vodacom have enabled
wifi calling, for your device /model.
You also have to enabled wifi calling, or voLte, etc it with Vodacom customers services.
Then...you should be able to get wifi calling.
However, what Vodacom is basic saying
if you have intermittent issues etc, don't worry as they are still in a testing faze with wifi calling. (6 months later.?)

I had wifi calling on my S8+, (working)
around Jun /July 2017, after it was enabled with a Vodacom S8 firmware update.
It's also working fine on my Note 8.

Happens to mine to. Almost too hot to touch. Even after turning off maps it stays warm.
 
I have a Vodacom S8. I don't seem to see the video calling option. It's not there with a Vodacom or Telkom simcard. So what I did was put my Vodacom simcard in my S5 and made a video call to my S8 with Telkom mobile simcard and the video call works fine but I can't make a video call from the s8.... :confused:
 
Sorry guys, haven't been following the thread, but my daughter just picked up an S8 and is looking for case/tempered glass recommendations?
