Also received a second assessment over the weekend. Would be interested to see what feedback you guys are getting from SARS.

Got notification of 2nd assessment...adjustment made...another couple of grand coming my way.

So my previous employer owes the accountants money, so they won't do our IRP 5s. Not looking like this will be resolved any time soon.

Any suggestions? I want to submit and be done with it.

Tell Sars they are withholding it, illegal as far as I know as companies are now forced to submit electronically. They are in violation.

No Audit? Mine was quite a big swing so no surprise for audit but I suspect its the disability for my son as the diagnosis date fell in to the previous tax year and I didn't submit back then for disability. If I work out the difference, it seems to make sense as a rollover from the previous year.

Since I was not required to send any docs, and also called them this morning to confirm why I received a reduced assessment, the guy just said that they have changed their calculations....I asked for the specifics....but got told I wasn't the only one.

Requested a new statement of account....and the money is being refunded tomorrow morning....I can see it on my pending credits in my banking profile and also on the statement.

So yay...extra 5k for me...and straight into my Bali trip find.

Do people not go through these Notice of Assessments?

I did I did. ;)

Extract from the second assessment: "Please note that this amount only reflects your income tax assessment and does not reflect tax payable under any previous assessment or any other balances on your account."

So the change on my assessment fell under the "Retirement annuity fund contributions" section. The "Amount b/f from previous year" line went up a lot compared to the previous assessment.

Well, if that's the case, then yay. Bummer I got selected for audit, but reckon it'll be fine. I can wait for the extra bit of scratch, as long as it's not coming back to bite me next year.

Also got whacked R1085 on second assessment... bloody SARS. But should still get something back to pay for my holiday in November.

Work colleague has this problem
No tax number on IRP5?
He registered for e-filing earlier tonight and got the message that there's no return available.

Should he speak to HR or SARS? I would guess HR

1st get copy of IRP5 from HR.
After that phone SARS call center to see if they can see what is happening. He might have to go into a Branch.

Why don't you agree with it? You used another calculator like https://www.taxtim.com/za/calculators/tax-refund and got another figure or you just think so?

Yes i used the taxtim calculator and it gave me the exact same amout as the figure of my paye amount that reflects on my irp5....when i requested a reason i see that my provident contribution amount is zero and the amount that should be next to it is sitting in retirement contribution. ..could this be the reason?

Did you earn less than the minimum taxable amount and thus expect to get all your PAYE back?

Provident contributions is retirement contributions (the are all now treated the same), so no, can't be the reason.

He showed me his IRP5 this morning. There's definitely no tax number on there.
At HR as I'm typing.

I had a "special stopper" on my account because my IRP5 banking details and my new banking details are different. I changed my banking details in May 2017 at a SARS branch. The special stopper was removed over the weekend.

My Statement of Account finally shows 0, with Electronic refund dated 19/07/2017.
