SARS E-Filing 2017

Just tried to submit mine but I've got a bit of a query.

While updating my ITR12 form, at the end it is asking for information I was never asked to provide last year regarding RA Contributions. Last year it just asked me to provide total contributions for the year of assessment but now another batch of questions have come up;

''Name of insurer''; ''Policy number'' and ''Contributions made to this policy''. First two are not a problem, but the last one? Is it requesting total contributions to date?

Contributions for tax year I bet.

It is asking for the years policy contributions, the different amounts of the various policies must add up to what you put into "provide total contributions for the year of assessment". Stop over complicating.

Yep, makes sense now.

Quite stupid of me but then again I incurred a penalty in the past for oversight, so I just wanted to be sure.

I had a "special stopper" on my account because my IRP5 banking details and my new banking details are different. I changed my banking details in May 2017 at a SARS branch. The special stopper was removed over the weekend.

My Statement of Account finally shows 0, with Electronic refund dated 19/07/2017.

Katching!

What's annoying is the field that says RAs that you belong to, I don't have RAs but it wouldn't allow me to put in 0. It insisted I had to belong to one, so I put 1 and set the contribution to 0,only thing I could do.

So you are 100% sure you didn't tick the below, which is for RAs and not pension or provident funds at all?

:crylaugh: None of use are perfect. You can always file a correction if you want, but that might delay payment if money is due to you..

I owe SARS R15 000 :(. Will save up and submit on like 20 November.
I submitted a correction, I've been selected for Audit/Verification on a balance of 0. Even with the accidental RA ticked they only owed me 36c.
I can live with them taking as long as they want on verifying the 0.

Question for experts:

I have a property that I rent out and I file income and expenses accordingly. Soon family will stay there rent free. Can I still claim the expenses although income is zero?

I have been advising clients to file even if they are not required due to these penalties being applied.

I have managed to get most of them waived or reduced. They have been having these issues since it was required for all employees to have tax numbers and the introduction of administrative penalties not linked to amounts due to SARS. The previous penalties only applied if you owed SARS money. The new admin penalties are for late/non submission irrespective if you owe SARS or not after the assessment.

I've probably had over R200k in admin penalties waived for clients over the last 3 years.

I received the following notice from SARS.

http://links.mkt2356.com/servlet/Ma...gxMjA5NzkyMDg3S0&j=MTAyMzQ3NTY2OAS2&mt=1&rt=0

It relates to the changes to the Retirement Reform and requests certain employers to update their EasyFile software and resubmit their IRP5 data. I have a few companies on my Easy File programme and need to resubmit for everyone where this applies.

i would suggest anyone affected to contact their HR and find out if they have resubmitted. It also affects other source codes.

On the 14th they fixed that for most people (you will see reduced assessment in efiling if they did). On the 11 they fixed it for my mom after the NOO logged on 1st (read back for screenshots of the NOO result, i'm not doing other peoples searching for them again, quoted that post enough).
Thanks for the info - there's no need about the "doing other peoples searching for them again" comment though!

Had to submit documents for verification this morning. Feels odd only submitting two documents.

efiling complains that I have not ticked yes or no on
Please ensure that you complete the following mandatory fields before printing the form:

- Did you pay any medical expenditure (including medical scheme contributions where you are not the principal / main member of the medical scheme) in respect of any immediate family member who is dependent on you for family care and support?

Which is fine and dandy except that the question does not appear anywhere on the form. Yes I tried ticking yes and no with medical nothing changes. This is for a 2016 tax return (yes he's late as feck), maybe the medical changes to the system for 2017 buggered something up?
