SARS E-Filing 2019/20

A taxpayer will be ‘eligible’ for auto-assessment if the third party data providers have filed all data in respect of that taxpayer. If the taxpayer accepts the auto-assessment there is no need to file a tax return.

Taxpayers should only accept the auto-assessment if they are satisfied that their financial data has been correctly reported to Sars, and that they do not have any additional income, deductions, rebates or tax credits to declare.

Taxpayers who have not been auto-assessed, as well as those who are not satisfied with their draft assessments, will be able to file their annual returns from September 1.

Non-provisional taxpayers who file through electronic channels will be able to do so until November 16. Those wanting to file at a Sars branch will only be able to so until October 22 – and only if they have made an appointment.

As they haven't asked for proof of emigration, I've submitted and sent off audit docs. Let's see what happens.

I had a good chuckle at the PAYE entry glitch. I agree with them, the amount is ludicrously extreme.

Soon gone from the clutches of the cancer that's killing the land.

Hi All,
Preparing for the tax season that opens on 1st September and just wondering if anyone has any information on how to submit for a home office claim?
I started with a company in Oct 2018 working from home full time, did not claim in 2019 as it was not for a full year and just wondering what I need to submit for this year?
Any information you could share with me?

Guess I need to wait till Sept. Quoted from above interview (Aug has become 2nd half of Aug)

In the second half of August we will then select three million or thereabouts taxpayers that we call “standard income earners” – and by that we mean someone who has had a single income from one employer, plus the standard deductions. And, because we have all of that information, we can do an assessment on your behalf without you having to submit any information to us. You will then get the estimates from us, from Sars, to say that, according to our records this is the assessment.

It will be very interesting to start reading posts from people who have been selected for Auto Assessment. Despite the fact that the Auto Assessment was implemented last year, I have not heard/seen any feedback as to whether this was accepted or rejected by those who were Auto Assessed.
Perhaps a MBB member who is Auto Assessed can start a thread?

When will the auto accessments begin? Probably also in September? I think I will probably be auto assessed as my stuff is regularly straight forward. Last year everything was already filled in correctly. I just had to accept it

Think they said August

Well that is good then. Auto accessing the people before the tax season starts will be more reason why people will use it I guess. Most people that will get auto accessed should be getting money back or break even I would guess.

Its stated on Sars site. From 1 Aug 2020

If your tax are simple and straight forward...

Not sure if there is a tax season thread (I seem to recall one but can't find it now) so mods, please merge and delete if so

Has anyone submitted yet this year? Tax season is open but I've heard payouts could possibly only happen in September due to Covid.
