SARS E-Filing 2020/21

I've been selected for verification for the last 6 years.
Maybe it's because they always owe me about 30K+ :cautious:
So, I am just speculating here as I hardly get anything in return - will change soon due to RA contrib. Would it be fair to say that bulk of SARS owing you would be because of RA contribution? And if yes, why would they select you for verification every damn year as contribution is auto populated?

My Medical Aid certificate didn't link to my return, so I filled it in was selected for verification, I submitted the document but how long does the process usually take before the pay the refund, or is it really the whole 21 days?
SO gets it within 3 days usually but she usually files after august.

I earn a basic salary + monthly commission. So my annual gross pay is never the same. They can only do the final calculation based my my income for the year at the end I guess. I'm sure they deduct too much each month :cautious:

oh ok. I also earn variable income due to being contractor but I always seem to earn within same income tax bracket (over a year) so it is probably easy to calculate and that explains why I don't get anything back. :)

Can someone give me a sanity check - with ±R50k taxable income for the year what amount of CGT should I pay on ±R550k capital gains?

So... I was selected for verification and need to submit the following supporting documents:

- Rental/Lease agreement
- Schedule of detailed rental expenses
- All related invoices
Note: If rental loss is not ring-fenced please provide reasons why it should not be ring-fenced
Note: Supply reasons if there was a decrease in rental income compared to the previous years
- Bond statement reflecting interest on bond where claimed on the return

What reasons should I give for not wanting the loss ring fenced? First time I get this crap.

Go through this one. Simple quiz.

Plus this one

Most probably a refund above threshold risk that gets triggered.

I am bit confused - my account balance on my SARS profile is negative after submitting my 2021 return, but according to SARS I won't get a refund?

edit

Seems to be in the same boat.

But my Statement of Account says "Refund 0", but then "Refund Amount" says the amount.

Wonder for if we are not eligible for a refund for some reason?

Requested my SOA and received this.

By no means rich but it pays for my move end of the month.

Now we wait. If they refunded on the 30th it should be in my account by tonight / tomorrow morning I guess.

When clicking the "REFUND STATUS" button is says "No Refund Due"
IT34 shows a refund amount.

I received a letter on the 30th to say that the verification was completed with no adjustments.

I guess I need to wait for the refund then.

Nice

Mine is a bit more, but mu SOA still says Refunds: 0.

Will give them a call to find out why.

I was keeping this to myself ... but I did register with Taxtim ( like on Tues) ... realizing I dont have time to deal with SARS Returns and the drama that comes with it....
but was doing it for them to handle my company SARS things

But when they kept prompting me to answer the goddamn questions to try to get to know me and what taxtim package will be suitable for me ... I just left it like that .... I smelled a problem coming from a KMs away driving a VW Polo

It hit me that I once assigned a Tax Practitioner (some years back) to handle my SARS things ... eeerhh next thing I was due for a huge Refund that I don't even know where it was coming from ... and SARS wanted proof (docs) ... and I couldn't even be able to do things my in my own Tax returns ... imagine

Right in that moment I dropped all the iiisshh that I was doing went straight to the branch
.... Bra I denied knowing about any Tax Practitioner assinged to my SARS profile ...like a criminal deny something they know very well that they did in the court of law

Then they removed that Tax Pract.. assignment ... with immediate effect (Ramaphosa style) ... with that said I to sign bunch of docs that I didnt know about that thing..
Then BOOM .. I regained control ..

Moral of the story ,,, Lesson learned with assigning the folks or companies to handle isshhhh in my Returns ... Wont ever do it again

So I understand that frustration.
I have no affiliation with them, just a user for the last 3 years- yes, you give Marc Sevitz full access to your data and power of attorney. (He is one of the founders: a CA and Practioner on Record as required by the Tax Act).

You still have full ownership and control of your profile. They merely comb over the data and ensure it's optimal. They are incredible IMO, my only annoyance point being weak answers to questions sometimes when you send them in or them asking you to pay for a basic answer

I'm still considering claiming for home office - doing some calculations to decide if it's worth it and the extra hassle that comes when I sell oneday.

Question though - when calculating % of home used for office space is it the size of my office vs the size of my entire property, or just the size of my house building?
It's the percentage of the office in relation to the entire building. So in my instance, the office is an outbuilding approximately 7m x 1.5m attached to a main house of 69sqm. Since my office is 10.5sqm / 79.5sqm (total building area) - I get a percentage of 13%. Claiming for it, for the first time has almost tripled my return. The proof will be in the pudding but I have everything ready for them. From the HR letter/proof to the invoices paid -I want it all. My partner's been retrenched since 31 July 2020 so it's quite needed

Check out TaxTim's calculator if you wish.

I'm wondering if there isn't just something wrong with my efiling then, since when I log into efiling I see nothing - not history or anything.

I've now submitted a request on efiling to remove taxtim as practitioners, will have to see if that fixes the problem.

That electronic refund reversal means that you might be in for some fun and games. Seen ones where its happened 20 days in a row.

Did you try requesting a tax transfer type?

I've never used a tax practitioner before and was thinking about using TaxTim for this return to ensure the WFH expenses are properly submitted. Or is it better to just do it yourself?
