SARS E-Filing 2020/21

I filled on the 2nd of July, was selected for verification and uploaded my supporting docs shortly thereafter.

Received my completion and finalised without changes letters yesterday, which states that my verification has been finalised without any changes. My SOA changed from 'Selected for audit or verification' yes to no and refund date shows the 1st of August.

My Refund status still shows:

Your Income Tax refund for xxxxxxxxxx is on hold due to your assessment being subject to audit for 2021 tax period(s).

Should I be worried?
Mine is exactly the same. Filed on 1st, selected for audit/verification. Sent supporting documents on 8th,(was a delay obtaining PDF version of IRP5 from employee HR system at work) received letter on 14th saying verification is complete and assessment has no changes. My refund status still shows that same message, that it is on hold, despite verification being complete. Slightly worried. How long after receiving confirmation that audit/verification is done, does the money get paid out?

I would say that there's definitely an issue on their system then, completion letter is supposed to update the refund status and date but it's not.

I will try contacting them.
 
For those of us that submitted documents twice (i.e. through the web and then through the MobiApp), I have just got off the phone "to check all is in order" and the agent confirmed that the verification process starts from Day 1 after the final submission meaning we delayed our possible time in the Audit/Verification.

He advised that based on my second upload date, I should only expect a response by 5 August. He seemingly stepped through my docs and was satisfied that it's complete without the picture so f**** knows.

A product of an over complicated automated system by SARS....Our HEROS.
 
I submitted on 1 July and selected for verification. Uploaded supporting docs on 2 July, but not all since I had more than 20 files. Uploaded additional docs via app on 9 July.

Received completion letter, wth amendments, on 14 July. Submitted dispute with additional supporting docs yesterday (15 July).
Awaiting SARS response.

@Gory51 Does your Notice of Assessment also show yes for Selected for audit or verification and No on the Statement of Account?

Yes, but it originally showed yes on statement of account I think?

EDIT: I save all my pdf files to download before opening. I checked my document history. Notice of Assessment was Y - Selected for audit/verification

Best would be to wait, they will contact you again for further details if needed.

The SARS letter informing taxpayers of a verification, generally come in two formats, one that is very specific and detailed about what needs to be submitted and another which basically just asks for supporting documents for all items on the tax return.

If you received the 2nd (general letter) then I would think it is "obvious" to submit some evidence that the office is equipped for purpose, but that might just be me.

I don't think much will happen over the weekend but Ill keep checking statement of account once a day until next week as well.
 
Does this mean I need to call them or wait the 21 days?

I believe so. The same applies in my case. I am responsible for water + elec only.

The tennant can only claim expenses that he/she paid him/herself, monthly rental included

SO got auto assessed but they didn't include one paltry interest of under 50 rands and didn't include exempt income either. Did someone had to edit like this as well ?

The cleaner sounds like a claim which will be hard to prove so I would shy from it. Building insurance should have invoices and/or statements for the period.
 
Anyone knows if rental income has to be declared in both tax returns in case of marriage in community of property? I seem to have read something recently on this but can't find the link.

And then what about other income like interest, dividend - does that need to be declared in both tax returns?

jirre - I am getting very confused as to what penalty applies here if this is true.

You can't claim building insurance, but you can claim your life insurance (assurance) on the bond
