SARS eFiling 2022/2023

Related /unrelated question. Does it help to have a car allowance even if you don't travel /drive that much for work, or will you be screwed by the tax man?
 
I was unemployed for 11 months of the tax year. Employed for February 2023, will this help that I paid the full year towards a medical aid and once employed I received travel allowance and car allowance? would this be a good year for a nice sum return?
Can only get the tax you paid for the one month back.

I just pay the 100% Tax monthly for the car allowance instead of the usual 80% monthly so when i file i actually see money back.
 
Just logged in on eFiling on the app and my 2023 tax return was there and prepopulated! Completed it, got my tax calculation (happy!) and submitted it. Life’s good :)
You are right. Everything is populated. Submitted!
 
A couple years ago I remember I used to get tax credits simply for having a medical aid. Whatever happened to that? Why did they stop it? Now all I seem to get for is my retirement annuity.
 
Also submitted. They want employer letters to verify I work from home, layout, and expense schedule. I've got all besides the employer letter - well none from this year. Only a 2020 stating permanent office closure.

I've requested the current year letter in our HR systems - will wait for that and submit docs for verification.
 
I want to claim home office expenses, but the form wizard doesn't have the "Did you incur any expenditure that you wish to claim as a deduction that was not addressed by the previous questions?" question as described on https://www.sars.gov.za/types-of-tax/personal-income-tax/filingseason/home-office-expenses/#:~:text=Where will I claim home,on your Income Tax Return.

Am I doing something wrong?
It's so hidden, it looks deliberate.

Under Standard Questions - make sure to select the last menu item which says

Did you receive any other income (excluding amounts received/accrued as a beneficiary of a trust(s), or deemed to have accrued in terms of s7) and/or incur any other allowable expenses not addressed above?

This will bring up the Other Deductions/Exemptions - it's in there. I had to find it. My apportioned home office expenditure is like R21k so no way I am letting that slide.
