SARS eFiling 2022/2023

I'm disappointed with my return of 27c (long story) and think I should include WFH expenses too. My entire garage has been repurposed exclusively as my office.

Allegedly, inter alia, you need a floor plan. I am not going to draw a floor plan so, if you wouldn't mind the tagging... @PhireSide @RonSwanson @BeerIsNotGood... Where in PE does one go?

I could phone around, but thought you chaps might help me out.

Are you looking for someone to draw floor plans for your house?

Oh, funny okes. Where in PE do I go to find my floor plans.

Edit: maybe I should just do my own measurements? Allegedly it doesn't have to be architect accurate.

It should be quite easy, what SARS wants to do is determine what percentage of the total floor size of the home is dedicated to WFH office, because the same percentage will apply to expenses.

So if your home expenses (electricity, rates, taxes, renovations, bond and insurance payments) are R3000 pm for the tax year, and the garage office is a third of that (usually garages are around 40 squares, so home incl. garage must be 120 squares) then you can claim 30% of that (R1000). Just remember that it must be strictly dedicated to work, you are not even allowed to store your kids' football there on a shelf.

Just measure up and do a floorplan, does not have to be to scale, but the measurements do need to be accurate.

@Snyper564 can maybe give better advice than me.

is it sectional title or full title?

Sectional title, unfortunately.

I'll also refer to SARS/taxtims guidance on allowable WFH expenses.

OK, thanks! Yeah, I see many references of people not having to resort to the actual floor plans.

TBH I don't mess with claiming any wfh or home office expenses. The problem comes when selling your home that, that portion will be excluded from your primary residence exclusion. So the only expenses I claim in this case is full 100% attributable to trade expenses whether that be internet, banking etc. I don't go attribute a portion of the domestic for example.

You still get 100% write offs for all section 11e wear and tear allowances for capital items too.

Just my 2c if you wanna claim the home office this is one of the harder things to get by sars at the moment.

Does that not only apply if you claimed the cost of the direct property (i.e, your bond+interest costs) and not the electrcity/water +rates paid?

I don't claim claim any WFH expenses on my regular job even though I do work from home.

I just claim for my extra income from what I make trading crypto and the space I use in my home dedicted to that.

Would be **** if SARS claimed the electricity, insurance, water and rates paid in my provisional capacity meant that the 6% portion of my home dedicted as my extra income was excluded from CGT if we sell our place.

Not sure how that squares up tbh.

tried on both web and app, both say only after 8pm on the 7th :(

I logged it via the app version.... and 2023 popped up. Clicked ok... and all data available.

So my tax return is at least initialized.

Will complete next week things and see if I can submit

Only an issue when you start allocating costs to a dedicated space. But read up on it

What can one typically consider Sect 11e wear & tear?

Also, can one claim anything against "fringe benefits" ?

Is it possible to change both the security contact number and email address on SARS efiling?

Currently, it's linked to the number and email address of someone who used to help us with our taxes but we no longer have contact with them. Problem is, the OTP it sends to change these details is to the existing number/email on the system.

Is there any way to change these or will SARS be able to help change it for us?

Since when can you claim for internet? The last two years with WFM they didn't want to accept my internet.
