SARS eFiling 2022/2023

Not worth it.
Agreed. I wanted to claim last year and the amount of effort involved was just silly. I had a 3D printer, gaming pc and fish tank in my 360 photos. The lady that helped me with my claim said SARS will just reject my claim because the space I was claiming for was not a 100% dedicated office... Eventually I just dropped it.

Is it possible to change both the security contact number and email address on SARS efiling?

Currently, it's linked to the number and email address of someone who used to help us with our taxes but we no longer have contact with them. Problem is, the OTP it sends to change these details is to the existing number/email on the system.

Is there any way to change these or will SARS be able to help change it for us?
You have to set up a telephone appointment through the website, latest booking date was the 7th July.
Then they will help you change it on the phone.

In the interim you will have to submit the following for FICA purposes:

  • Certified copy of ID (Both Sides)
  • Stamped Bank Statement (e-stamp will be accepted – no older than 3 months)
  • Proof of Address (Bank Statement is accepted – no older than 3 months)
  • Selfie of you holding your ID document – this needs to be as clear as possible

Reason I know, I am in the same boat as you.

Where and how do I enable the office space claims again? I bought a MacBook and some monitors I want to claim over 3 years. And happy to give them a 360 view of the office.

I just can't get the setting to enable that section on the Form Wizard.

A friend claimed a laptop and monitor. They only allowed the laptop.

Forgot to attach one of the supporting documents they requested- is there any way to attach the document after submitting? Or am I going to be waiting 21 days for them to tell me and take another 21 days to submit?

Rule 1 with sars, check things especially supporting docs 4 times. Now its the waiting game

Sorted, I did not even upload any documents lol

I was originally not meant to get Audited- they then requested supporting documents which I stuffed up on, yet I just received the completion letter that no adjustments will be made .

You can't be serious.

All that just to change security contact details?

Only an issue when you start allocating costs to a dedicated space. But read up on it

I guess it's still not really saying exactly what I'm talking about.

My regular salary I do not claim WFH at all.
My extra sole prop income costs I do claim expenses related to earning. Part of that is the costs related to earning that income, like the % of office space pro-rata'd to the electricity/water/rates and insurance, cost of equipment, software etc.

I specifically never included bond or interest since I did not want any CGT headaches if we sold our place after 10 years.
Am I mistaken and claiming electricity and water has meant I'd be liable down the road for CGT?

Ah gotcha, might want to double check. I think the WFH one is more of an issue.

I use 10% as office space etc.

BUT if you never claim office space but apportion electricity could potentially be safe on the trade. Might wanna be something you look into.
