I called the SARS call center, and after a long process of menu's, reference number, and ID number - I was told my tax return has been posted to me and should arrive within two weeks - what I want to know is, how long after the return is complete till I get the refund?

I tried getting through to a person to ask - but I was number 97 in the queue. :(

I confer with the 3 posters above. SARS is very quick nowadays.

Not sure when my accountant submitted the actual return, but all I remember is seeing a small refund in my account a few days after paying his account.
I have a new Accountant and he must submit electronically for this to go through so quickly? This is the second year I am using him and the first year (last year) I was pretty shocked to see the small refund into my account in such a short space of time.

It's pretty quick, even if you did the return manually. The slow part is getting the assessment, getting the money after the assessment is fast (I normally see it in my bank account before I actually get the notice of assessment)

The actual assessment for my tax was done within 2 weeks (I submitted the day after e-filing was opened) but I was selected for an audit. I was only contacted about submitting my documents in Jan this year and I waited another two weeks before receiving an SMS from the bank telling me that I'd been refunded.

Given the holiday periods, I would say it was still quick enough.

I had allot of issues with my return this year, this morning I got the IT34 notice !!!!!

At long last, I have given up tbh. Now only a few days till Christmans :D

*sigh* my consultant dude says I should expect about R30,000 back - hence the rush....

i got mine within 3-4working days, so did my father but my mom is still waiting and its been 11working days

OMF - SARS are useless, I've been phoning every two weeks on their instruction for an update, today was the end of their 90-day assessment period, my return was submitted on the 1st of December.

I get told they'll escalate it and I must phone again on the 23rd - How slow can they be?

My return was submitted during September last year, and I have'nt heard anything from SARS! I sent e-mails but had no response.

I'd call them - they probably lost it, just remember, when the **** hits the fan, its always your fault when it comes to SARS.

When I called today, they said I only submitted on the 6th of March - I asked how they figure that when I got reference numbers predating the 6th, they eventually said they found another return from December and will escalate. Seems like chaos at SARS these days.

im in the same boat, submitted mine manually at the end of november and still nothing back from them, tried calling a while back and couldn't get through, sent an e-mail and they told me to phone the call centre, i think im going to pay them a personal visit tmrw, luckily the offices are just down the road from me

I know I shouldn't, but I'm really relying on the cash returned this year. $%$#%$ frustrating.

I asked the woman why the dude didn't escalate it the last time I phoned, she said cause the system only allows it AFTER 90 working days. I bet all they're going to do now is send me a letter requesting receipts again - and then I have to wait another 90 working days.

They're probably busy chasing down clever corporates and other rich tax "avoiders", according to the Sunday Times. Something about not reaching their inflation targets, I think.
