Scratch that, the ****ing thing died six hours after I picked it up...

Luckily, quite by chance, it broke down as I was riding by the dealership.

This does not instill much confidence...

Bwhahahahahha
It probably missed it's home on the floor :p
Find out what went wrong.

I'm now looking at a Motomia. Will for for a physical look next week.

I could highly recommend Motomia.

Bought a Beretta 125cc scooter from them last month, they have a special running which includes a free helmet, vest and gloves. The helmet is open face but for R200 you may swop it for a full face one.

Apparently Motomia is a South African brand, they select quality vendors from overseas and assemble the bikes locally. Before buying, I went and have a look at the Gomoto's, the Big Boy's, etc. The Motomia's fit and finish was the best of them all.

Yes, it is not Japanese - but it appears to be solid and well put together. I'm a big guy and got 35km/litre on my first tank already! For commuting purposes the Beretta performs well enough.

How does the 125 perform? Is the acceleration fast enough?

I'm looking at a 150cc Milano or Capri :p

Lol please report back about the MotoMia in a year or two. They truly have a tendancy to fall apart quickly.

@spiderz if you weigh anything more than 70kg stay away from a 125cc

hahaha, this comes back to the point where I said go for a well known japanese brand scooter such as yamaha, suzuki, honda. Much like when you buy a cheap chinese car the same applies to buying scooters. most people would not even consider buying a chinese car why would you go buy a scooter that is not a well known brand.

Oh well, maybe someone will learn from this and instead of being cheap and buying something for like 5-8k, rather spend an extra 5k and get something proper.

Just to be clear, in my case, I did not buy a cheap 7K scooter, this bloody thing was 12.5K, and from all reports I was able to find, has a good reputation.

I think I just got a dud. Or a really ****ty dealership with mechanics who don't know their arses from their elbows...

The acceleration on my Motomia Beretta 125cc is not bad at all. I am able to keep up with traffic easily. They advertise it as having the same power output as most 150cc's on the market. I'm two or three kg's shy of 100kg (same as the bike itself!) and still get decent performance and fuel consumption.

I would have loved to buy a 150cc or a Japanese brand for that matter, but unfortunately my budget was only so big and I would rather have something than nothing at all. The Motomia product appeared to be the best in terms of fit and finish, if you look at gaps between panels, the solid feel of the side mirrors, the switches, etc. as compared to the Big Boys, Gomotos, etc.

I also looked on Hellopeter and found that Motomia had much less complaints than say Big Boy. I visited two Motomia dealerships and two Big Boy dealerships, in both Big Boy dealerships I was ignored, they didn't have stock of the model I was interested in and the product looked cheap, in my humble personal opinion. In both Motomia dealerships I was treated friendly and professionally, they had stock of the product I wanted and the showrooms were neat and tidy.

I was a little bit skeptical about the performance of the 125cc but decided to take a chance and I was not disappointed. On inclines I can only do about 40-50km/h though, the 125cc could do with a little more torque but once again my weight is probably affecting it to some degree.

In the end, it is more than adequate in peak hour traffic to and from work, which is why I bought it in the first place.

I am hoping it will be reliable and not fall apart, time will tell I guess...I always believe if you look after something properly it definitely helps...and with a more expensive brand you could also end up with a dud!

What did they say to you when you wheeled it back in?

They were embarrassed as you might imagine, full of promises and apologies.

***

In any event, I went in two hours ago and yelled at them. Head mechanic got involved, and eventually found a piece of paper stuck in some sort of air-intake pipe thingy...

It was written in Mandarin, so it was just one of those one in a million things, somehow it made its way into there at the factory.

The mechanics thought it was ****ing hilarious - I'm just glad it was something simple.

Scoot it getting delivered a little later, hopefully all will be well from this point onwards! :D

Glad to hear it wasn't a major thing.

My aunt bought a brand new Audi Q5 and when she was driving it home one of the front wheels flew completely off, resulting in huge scratches and dents on the car!

+1 what the hell?

Luckily she wasn't on the Main Road otherwise some dangerous events may have occurred.

I think some wheel nuts for display purposes hadn't been taken off or something or other, and she was driving along and the whole wheel came off.

They gave her another sedan Audi (new one) to drive while they got a new Q5.

What was your final amount? What extras did they load or did you get?
Just want to know what extra cost to expect then going.

Edit: (motomia)
License, Registration & Microdotting - R899
Is that amount standard?

Edit:
Grrrr, that price is only if you finance the bike thru them.
Normal on the road fees is R1199 :crying:
First Service @ 300km is R399
Normal service every 2500km is R470.

Bike itself was R7,999 (including the free helmet, etc)
Microdotting / government levy was R399

I paid R8,398 in cash and drove the bike out of there.

Licencing and registration was not done by them, I chose to do that myself - saving a lot of money by doing so. I can't remember what they wanted to charge me if they needed to do the lic & reg - the R899 sounds right.

12.5K for the scooter, and the on the road was R1250. They tried to charge me R1550, as the scooter was a 150cc, but by their own admission, there is no difference between a 150, and a 125 mechanically really, so I kind of balked until they agreed on the R1250...

Then, I spent R1300 on a jacket, R650 on nice gloves (I love my hands), and a real ****ty helmet which I will have to upgrade as soon as I have the cash.
