Screamer ADSL

This is my 512 line this morning…

Latency looks good on the 512, but speed is low.

Latency on my 384 was not good enough over the weekend. Caused major lag in online gaming. But the speed was fine. Over all it is getting better, but just not there yet. Also have noticed that Torrents seem to be very, very slow.

1000-2000ms with packet loss.

@cda

I notice you also publish unhappy posts about your Screamer WiMAX speeds on the WiMAX thread. Do you have a WiMAX and an ADSL connection from Screamer. Seems a bit much for someone who seems so unhappy with their service

A sadish screaming screamer

Right so i finally got my screamer 1024 unlimited but i am not really getting what is promised!
the pc i am running the screamer on cant even connect it just times out and the network connection just says limited or no connectivity! i have checked the connections and they seem to working fine.

so i am a lil lost as to how that happens but then on my other wired connection to my PS3 i can connect to the PS network and do the internet thing there but just at SUPER slow speeds, i mean last nite i downloaded a 111mb update and it took me 4 hours.

however my wireless connections seem to be ok, not the greatest speeds but perfectly acceptable to surf the web.

so basically i am confused and looking to the wider genius community out there to tell me whether i am retarded or not, at setting this stuff up or wat is going on?

does my make of router make a difference? does the type of cable make a massive difference, stp utp, or cross over that sort of thing?

any help would be much appreciated

Appears not much have happened at Screamer since December, guess they're backing away from the ADSL market...

I think they are starting to sort through our issues... its been much better today, slowly but surely, been picking up since Friday.

Come guys, we were all lambasting Screamer last week ... and now its very quiet. I'm guessing your speeds are as promising as mine today. I hope it lasts!!!

13:45 and things are going pear shaped again...

Well speeds for the whole of last week and today are pretty much the same .Slow as normal.
Downloads @ 2-3kb i dont think this is what i signed up for .
I used a axxess pre-paid 3gd account for Saturday afternoon at full speeds .Back to Screamer it very very very slow .
Or maybe is it just me or Cape Town area

did you put the DNS's in your TCP/IP configs for each device? Thats the Screamer recommendation...

i did indeed and still slow slow slow!!!
again downloaded that PS3 home 41mb took me 1.3 hours. still cant get internet on the main home pc, but my wireless working like a champ today!!! things seem to working the opposite way for me a faster wireless than wired connection!!! so confused its not even a joke!!!

All seems to run just fine, but as soon as I start uTorrent, the connection goes to hell and gone. There must be some sort of shaping going on there that is interfering with everything. My HTTP downloads and browsing just about grind to zero with uTorrent running. I tried this twice and got the same results both times! And just to be clear on that, there is just about nothing coming down on the torrent app either…

hmm interesting... so guys close all those Torrent apps and check to see if I am right ?!?

Edit: It takes a good 30 minutes for the connection to stabilize after closing uTorrent down. Then my http downloads crawl back up to good speeds....

i am using bit-torrent and i can get up to 70-90kbps on some of the full seeded downloads but then as you said the same problem with http downloads, but even if i am not downloading i still have slow speeds, just get a msg from google crome this website cannot be displayed or something like that!!

Don't fool yourself too much, it might be better because some of us have not even used Screamer the entire weekend ;). Chances are their network is congested and everytime a screamer-user throws their router out the window, you get a slight speed increase :).

my speeds were excellent on the weekend. browsing was super fast and so were downloads.
browsing has slowed down a little today but its still usable.
torrents have been slow since friday

Thanks, for attempting to sort out the issues experienced over the last two or so weeks. Things seem to be looking up. I'm very pleased with the speeds I'm getting, when pages don't timeout. I would however like to stress that you change your website to reflect the ALWAYS shaped service. Your FAQ for the offering stipulates
Is my bandwidth shaped or unshaped? It is semi-shaped
This, as I have seen over the weekend is a lie. It is shaped, all the time. So don't lie, it's not okay. And your usage meter thing is up the creek (the one accessible through https://); it lies too and has about a quarter of what I have actually downloaded. Perhaps this is also why your shaping is so poor? Let us know, and thanks agian. Hope things remain constant.
