I would start by eliminating components - remove any routers between a single pc and the WiMax IDU and open a PPPoE connection directly (you will need your username and password).

btw were they able to browse etc using their laptop after installing?

damn. Some ideas then:
1) Before loading a page check your ip addresses after opening the PPPoE connection (command prompt -> ipconfig). Take notice of the ipaddress and dns server etc
2) Run a long ping to an overseas website eg ping www.google.com -t
3) Check ipconfig again to see if anything has gone wrong.

4) Perhaps try pinging a local address esp Screamer's as it is on their network as far as I know. www.screamer.co.za

5) Run a tracert and see where it fails. You should see your own ipaddress first.

6) Ping the edge of Screamer's network 10.254.253.254 before it enters the backhaul.

Let me know how it goes ...

As you guys can see, my upload needs a bit of looking at. :p

They installed a gateway and now everything works, but without it, it still doesn't work...
 
I don't know if you guys have the same problem, but from 9pm my browsing went to sh !t. :( Latencies are very good...

But I am trying to download a bios file from the Asus site... So far 36% of 715kb took me almost 40mins and counting.... I did a speed test at 6pm and got 536 down, but uploading was 175(1st time), 104(2nd time) and 66(3rd time)

Then I thought I will try a local site. Still waiting for gaming.do.co.za to open... :( MyBB doesn't even load correctly. Could at least post this.

From what I understand, the helpdesk closes at 10pm.

As is usual, once you are connected we tune your connection until it is correct so we will be working on it tomorrow morning.
 
Yeah, when they did the installation, they said I got the best signal you can get, except for 100% obviously. :D
 
I've been struggling with screamer connection the last couple of days. I connect fine and everything is dandy for about a minute and then it is just non existent; can't even ping the screamer tower. The call centre was pretty useless and gave up by saying the problem is probably with the network. But it happened for two days after that. Suppose I have to call them again. Do you guys think this 'connection optimising' can fix it? What exactly do they do to optimise it?

Sounds like the same thing I had. Can even ping or nothing... What happens if you disconnect and connect again?

My problem was resolved by installing a gateway...
 
I don't connect directly either but go via a router. Use Howzit on these forums as your contact point - he is pretty good in resolving issues.

Thanks for offering assistance Howzit, but I after phoning the Screamer call centre a second time the service desk guy sorted me out, I think. Connection looks good so far and no significant speed drop. Will PM if problem arises again.

For the sake of sharing, here's what seems to have solved my problem:
On my PPPOE connection Properties > Security > Advanced Settings chose 'Allow these protocols' with PAP & CHAP protocols ticked and all other protocols unticked. Restarted laptop and viola. I honestly don't understand exactly what these protocols do, but I'm glad it is helping!

I think it's got something to do with the way your connection is authenticated.:D
 
Maybe I should give that a go, cause my PPPoE connections are still not working... I can only connect with the gateway...
