SEACOM downtime after local backhaul problems

I think most use some part of SEACOM.
It seems that Afrihost depend on SEACOM while Mweb and Web Africa have it in their armory.
So if SEACOM goes down MWeb and WA will be affected but not screwed.
 
now i know why isp's were very relactant to commit themselves to seacom,i know why the predicted seacom big bang never came.
 
Don't worry guys, just a coupla more months till EASSY - then we should be fine for redundancy. All 3 links can't go down at the same time, surely. And IS will surely have loads of EASSY bandwidth for redundancy.

Edit: That said, I'm *** irritated at the moment - luckily I have Gconnect (Vodacom) as a backup.

Yes who would expect the internet to work when you paying almost R899 a month for it (including ADSL line and ISP fees)

R29 per a gig? Uncapped from R197 a month?

Trust me we would still be paying R79 a gig if it was not for Seacom

Afrihost did learn from what happened last month! Just set up your connection through their proxy server
 
Good bye Axxess Hello Mweb

This is getting too much. I moved from Afrihost to Axxess to make use of their unshaped account but it seems this was not a good move after all. Is Mweb the only alternative?
 
Does nobody else here but me get that this is Neotel's f-up, and not SEACOM's?????????

SEACOM is a submarine cable, i.e. it is at the bottom of the ocean. Neotel are the idiots that SEACOM has unfortunately decided to partner with landing the cable and for terrestrial backhaul from Mtunzini to JHB. This part of the network is NOT part of SEACOM - this is part of Neotel's network. SEACOM ends in Mtunizini, on the beach.

That said, SEACOM should really consider scrapping their partnership with Neotel, and going with Telkom, or DFA instead. It was a really poor choice.

Also, I don't understand why IS do not have redundancy on SAT3 and via satellite. It's just plain stupid.

The companies that are the most to blame for this issue is firstly Neotel, and secondly IS. Most of the other ISPs are just resellers of IS bandwidth.$\

Yep, cancelled my Afrihost account last night, Will be moving to MWEB beginning next month. Watching youtube while waiting for buffering on a 4Meg line is just not on! Bought 1 Gig WA prepaid just to watch my mock the week without buffering.

Afrihost is going from hero to zero in double time.

Yes they do, but I cant go to youtube and a number of other sites as it gives the message:
